Rams Running Back Cam Akers Hints At A Return Following The Odell Beckham Jr. News

Could a healthy Cam Akers be joining Odell Beckham Jr. for the Rams’ postseason run?

The running back went down with a torn achilles prior to the season. But after the team announced they were signing OBJ for the rest of the season, Akers hinted that he might be available by the end of the season.

“This sh-t getting scary. @OBJ to the Rams!” Cam Akers wrote on Instagram. “What if I came back this year though?”

When asked about the Cam Akers injury recently, Rams coach Sean McVay expressed cautious optimism that the running back could return if the team makes the playoffs.

“You don’t want to be presumptuous, but if we are able to make the playoffs and give ourselves a chance to play after (the regular season), the expectation is that Cam would be available to play,” McVay said to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic. “He’s on track to do that. He was running at 80 percent body weight at 10 miles per hour pretty effortlessly, and from the cameras that I saw last week that are kind of right behind his feet on the treadmill, unless you saw the scar you wouldn’t notice any sort of hitch in his giddy-up on that. He’s attacking the rehab the right way.

“He’s doing great. I think the plan is, if we’re able to play past the regular season, we’ll get Cam back this year and he’ll be playing in the playoffs.”

Adding Odell Beckham Jr. will likely be a shot in the arm for the Rams. But getting Cam Akers back by the end of the season might be even more of a cause for concern for the rest of the league.
