Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Chase Claypool opted to blame his teammates for wasting clock after being ridiculed for celebrating before spike attempt

Chase Claypool is the scapegoat in Pittsburgh, yet again.

Despite another solid performance on the field, Claypool took heavy criticism for celebrating a first down catch late in the game while his team was rushing to the line to try to spike the ball.

When speaking on the play after the game, Chase Claypool blamed the offensive lineman who knocked the ball out of his hands in the aftermath of the catch.

“Definitely gotta be better,” Claypool said via Yahoo Sports. “I got tackled near the hash, did my little first-down point and went to hand the ball to the ref. He had just got there. So, even if I got right up and looked for him, he wasn’t there. He ran down the field to come get the ball. The ball got knocked out of my hands. That’s what cost us time. But I definitely do have to be better. I knew the situation. ”

Clearly, the offensive lineman recognized that Chase Claypool’s charade was costing them precious clock time – so he took matters into his own hands.

I don’t think there’s any merit to the argument that the ball getting knocked out of his hands was what costed the team some seconds on the clock. But that’s Claypool’s story, and I guess he’s sticking to it.

Plain and simple: Chase Claypool needs to get smarter. And even if he’s one of the most talented guys on the field, I can’t imagine Mike Tomlin is going to put up with the boneheaded mistakes too much longer.
