Chiefs Fan Who Attended Game Is COVID Positive And Now All Of Kansas City Has To Quarantine

A Chiefs fan who attended the home opener at Arrowhead Stadium on September 10 has tested positive for COVID. Great. The very first game of the 2020 NFL season yielded a positive COVID case. The Kansas City Health Department reported the individual that tested positive watched the game from the group’s box in the lower level of the stadium. The same individual tested positive the following day. In light of the positive test, 10 other people have been prompted to quarantine for potential exposure to the coronavirus.

Ok, so maybe the entirety of Kansas City does not have to quarantine, but this still isn’t good news for the NFL. Football is an outdoor sport, it has that going for it. However, as far as fans go, it will be tough to promote social distancing in stadiums in a way that is effective. Chiefs fans proved that pretty quickly. People want to talk, drink and have a good time at games. I’m sorry but sitting 6-feet away from every person at a game is just not the same experience. That’s too far away to talk trash. Maybe not, but you get the point.

I don’t think one Chiefs fan has the power to doom the NFL season, but it is concerning. The team said that its contact tracing mechanisms allowed staff to identify the individual, the individual’s party, and service staff that came into contact with the individual. Along with any other ticket holders that may have been near the person when entering the stadium.

“I want to remind everyone that COVID-19 is anywhere and everywhere. While we’re all tired of it, frustrated, and even angry at how it has altered and stricken our lives and livelihoods, we must continue to think of those who have not and will not survive it,” said Dr. Rex Archer, Kansas City health director.

Listen up Chiefs fans: obey the COVID protocols. Do not screw up the season. If you want to repeat as Super Bowl champs then pay attention to your health. Get tested prior to going to games if you are showing symptoms. And if you don’t feel well, just don’t go to the game. Watch from home. It’s pretty simple.
