Damian Lillard Unhappy With The Timberwolves’ Head Coach Decision

Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard has become one of the more outspoken voices in the NBA. When he doesn’t like something, he’ll let you know about it. That was evident on Sunday night.

The Minnesota Timberwolves fired coach Ryan Saunders, and already have his replacement. The Timberwolves plan to give the job to Toronto Raptors assistant Chris Finch.

Damian Lillard took to Twitter to share his thoughts that the Timberwolves messed up by not giving the job to their assistant, David Vanterpool.

“How the hell do you not hire David Vanterpool and he’s right there on the bench… and has been in front office SUCCESSFULLY and on the front of a bench of a winning team SUCCESSFULLY (7 years) … and also has played a major role in the development of a dominant backcourt smdh,” Lillard wrote.
Lillard would go on to clarify his stance that the African-American Vanterpool should have gotten the job over Finch. Here’s what he said when somebody asked what he had against Chris Finch
“I don’t know him to have nothin against him. Congrats to him… but I’m sorry Vanterpool is a coach that I know for sure is needed in these locker rooms. I speak the real …not favorites… respectfully,” Damian Lillard replied.
Damian Lillard is familiar with David Vanterpool. Before moving to the Timberwolves bench, he was an assistant coach with Portland from 2012-2019. Hopefully Vanterpool gets a head coaching gig soon.
