Danny Green Throws Shade At Ben Simmons When Speaking On Upcoming Nets-Sixers Game

Philadelphia 76ers veteran guard Danny Green was one of the more vocal players in Ben Simmons’ corner following the end of the season last year.

When realizing that Simmons was struggling mentally and with his game, Green called on the Philly faithful to be better before booing the point guard.

“I love our fans, but when things aren’t going well, they can’t turn on you,” Green said at the time, via NBC Sports. “That’s the one thing I would disagree with or dislike. Some guys use it as motivation, some guys have a chip on their shoulder, but I think that needs to change. They need to be riding with us, regardless of how things are going.”

Now that Ben Simmons has been traded to the Nets, it appears the love from Danny Green has waned.

When speaking on this season’s upcoming Nets-Sixers matchup in Philly, Green said he doesn’t anticipate he’ll be shaking hands with his former point guard. Not juts that, but he doesn’t even think Simmons will have the guts to play in the game.

“I would be highly surprised if he even plays in that game,” Green said of Simmons. “I don’t know where his health is mentally, physically. I know he had other issues. We all know he does not like to play in Philly. Say that does happen, I see it being a very hectic, playoff-like atmosphere, environment where it may be very rough for him.”

Danny Green also said he didn’t necessarily think the players who went with Ben Simmons to Brooklyn will get along with their teammate.

“Interesting dynamic of how things went down, interesting dynamic of who went with him,” Green said. “I haven’t had a chance to talk with those guys yet, but I know they weren’t on the most cordial terms.”

But if Ben Simmons ends up playing against Danny Green, Joel Embiid, and co. on March 10th, Green left the door open to a show of respect with Simmons.

“It all depends on how that game goes, how he interacts in that game, how well he plays or how cleanly or non-cleanly he or us plays against each other is going to determine how we shake hands,” Green said. “But I highly doubt he plays in that game and if he does, I highly doubt he wants to shake hands before or after that game.”
