DeMarcus Cousins Baited Kings Announcer Grant Napear Into Showing Where His Allegiances Lie During The Protests

There’s no love lost between DeMarcus Cousins and Kings announcer Grant Napear, a local guy in Sacramento who’s previously said this about Cousins:

“If there is any player in the NBA that should not be talking about fan behavior, and about how they treat athletes as opposed to people, it’s DeMarcus Cousins,” Napear said. “This guy is the rudest, crudest, most vile player that I have ever been around in my 31 years in the NBA. He should not be speaking on this in any way shape or form… I have witnessed… over and over and over again, DeMarcus Cousins cursing at fans for no reason at all. I’ve seen him curse at women. I’ve seen him curse at people at the airports. I’ve seen him curse in front of ladies that have nothing to do with the sport he’s playing. For him to be talking about the fans, shame on him. Shut the hell up, and for once, act like a freaking professional. You got run out of Sacramento, you got run out of New Orleans, and I’m telling you right now, you’re getting run out of Golden State.”

Napear isn’t exactly beloved by other black former players either as former Kings Matt Barnes and Chris Webber both chimed in:

Now, I don’t know that you can throw the racist book at Grant Napear just for his tweet response. There are a lot of people out there who view the “All Lives Matter” tagline as being equal to saying “Black Lives Matter,” even though this last week has made abundantly clear that’s not the case. Grant Napear is a 60-year-old guy who may skew a bit conservative, you don’t necessarily expect a guy like that to be the most “woke” even though we all need to be for black people right now.

But when you pair that response with a history of players and fans finding you perhaps a bit less receptive to black athletes,  it’s a tough look for Grant Napear. Even though he said a less-than-ideal thing in his tweet, it’s not just about what you say right now. It’s about what you do every other day when the lights aren’t shined on you. Ol’ Grant may currently be reaping what he sows from all of those other moments when he could have been better towards these players who really have no reason to relish in taking him down like Cousins, Barnes and Webber all seemed to here.
