Surprising Team Emerges As Potential Trade Candidate For Deshaun Watson

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is taking part in Training Camp despite the notion that the team has no intention of playing him once the season rolls around.

Watson is currently attempting to fend off over 20 lawsuits from massage therapists who have alleged sexual assault against the star quarterback. Prior to the lawsuits, Watson had demanded a trade, as the Texans appear to be entering an incompetent rebuild.

However, the allegations against Deshaun Watson threw a wretch in the trade plans, and the market has expectedly dried out.

But one team is reportedly keeping an eye on the Watson developments.

According to reports, the Carolina Panthers are still keeping tabs on Watson even after acquiring Sam Darnold to be their QB1 this season.

Per Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio report:

“Per a league source, the Panthers quietly are keeping an eye on Watson. Yes, they traded for Sam Darnold and picked up his 2022 option. Owner David Tepper nevertheless is committed to finding a long-term franchise quarterback. Watson has the skill to become that guy, and Tepper — who made his money buying low and selling high — could be inclined to make a move if Watson’s contract can be secured at a reasonable amount.”

Does Deshaun Watson Make Sense In Carolina?

Of course, this would come as a surprise seeing as Carolina has seemingly put all their eggs in Sam Darnold’s basket. But perhaps the Panthers are merely keeping track of the investigation into Watson, and if his name gets cleared they might enter the fold.

There’s no doubt that Watson is among the best franchise quarterbacks in the NFL. And he would take any team with average to below-average quarterback play to new heights.

The interest in Deshaun Watson seems minimal right now for the Panthers, but keep an eye on them if something changes in the Watson case.
