Devin Hester Takes A Shot At Jay Cutler

Add future Hall-Of-Famer Devin Hester to the list of ex-Bears that have publicly taken a dig at Jay Cutler.

Hester went on Bleacher Report Gridiron’s Untold Stories and talked about how he felt slighted by his quarterback during his time in Chicago.

“The best QB when it comes to accuracy, power, knowledge,” Hester said. “When it comes to leadership-the worst.”

Hester also lamented Cutler’s relationship with receiver Brandon Marshall as a core reason why he never made it as a receiver in the NFL. Hester basically says that Marshall was the only guy Cutler would converse with, and therefore, he knew he was going to get the ball thrown his way most of the time.

Hester went on to tell a story about how he’d bet with defensive end Julius Peppers that Jay Cutler would throw the ball Marshall’s way. Hester said that Peppers would have to pay him $50 every time Cutler completed a pass to Marshall, and Peppers would have to pay him $100 if the pass was completed to anyone else.

“The bet was called off,” Hester said.

Not only did was the bet called off, but Hester claims Cutler threw the ball to Marshall 21 straight times. Hester wished the coaches would’ve stepped in.

“Ain’t nobody said nothing, that’s what really pissed me off,” he said.

As a Bears fan, I don’t really think you can blame Cutler and his relationship with Marshall for Hester never blossoming into a star receiver. The guy just didn’t have the instinct or route running ability to be a top receiver in the NFL.

Cutler may not have been the most likable guy in the locker room, but I think everyone needs to leave the guy alone. Not like it says much, but he is far and away the best quarterback the Bears have had in a very long time. Maybe Nick Foles can change that.
