New NBC analyst Drew Brees was trending during the "Black National Anthem" over his comments made when players protested the National Anthem

NFL fans are not quick to forget, and that was clear when they were coming at Drew Brees prior to the season opener between the Cowboys and Buccaneers on Thursday.

Brees is now working the pregame show as a member of the NBC broadcast team. And when he was with the Saints, he made critical comments about players around the league who protested the National Anthem by kneeling.

So when the “Black National Anthem” played prior to the game, many fans were quick to throw Drew Brees under the bus.

Drew Brees drew criticism for a comment he made about players kneeling for the National Anthem last year.

“I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country,” Brees said at the time. “Is everything right with our country right now? No, it is not. We still have a long way to go. But I think what you do by standing there and showing respect to the flag with your hand over your heart, is it shows unity.”

Drew Brees quickly apologized for his original comments.

“It breaks my heart to know the pain I have caused,” Brees wrote in an Instagram post. “In an attempt to talk about respect, unity, and solidarity centered around the American flag and the national anthem, I made comments that were insensitive and completely missed the mark on the issues we are facing right now as a country.”

Now that Drew Brees is a member of the media, I highly doubt we’ll be hearing anymore comments about the National Anthem of “Black National Anthem” from him.
