George Clooney Is Producing A Docuseries Outlining Abuse Allegations Within Ohio State Athletics

Actor George Clooney has found a new project, and it has to do with the recent history of abuse scandals coming out of Ohio State University.

Clooney has teamed up with Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures to produce the series that will detail the long history of abuse allegations and cover-ups within the athletic program at Ohio State.

The series is based on a Sports Illustrated story by Jon Wertheim from October 2020. The story detailed a list of allegations against former Ohio State sports doctor Richard Strauss. The story also revealed efforts by university officials to cover-up the whole thing. Sports Illustrated Studios have teamed up with Smokehouse Pictures and George Clooney to make the docuseries happen.

“This article uncovers the most widespread sexual abuse scandal in the history of American higher education. It is a story about power, abuse, enabling and the hierarchy of college sports that had been concealed for far too long,” said Wertheim, who will be an executive producer of the series via Hollywood Reporter. “Because these courageous men made the decision to remain silent no longer, we can finally begin to hold the abuser, and those who were complicit in their silence, accountable for their actions — and inactions. With the help of 101 Studios, [SI owner] Authentic Brands Group and Smokehouse Pictures, their voices and stories — harrowing as they are — will be amplified.”

The docuseries has not been picked up by an outlet yet, but appears to be in the works. It’ll be interesting to see how many people in positions of power get outed upon the release of this project. Good for George Clooney to dip his toes into such a big issue in sports today.
