I’m not saying there is a thing wrong with reminding all and sundry that you’re the Special One, or even that you’re Jose Mourinho. If that even counts. Heck. The season’s yet to get started, Mister.
The seasoned Tottenham gaffer is back in the news again, and your guess about it being typically Mourinho-stuff is absolutely true. The 57-year-old reckoned that he will only get better with age, and will not stop challenging his colleagues (suffice to say who and who he meant here) until he’s got no fire and motivation for the job left in him.
“People think I’m very old because I have been at this level since 2002 — I’m not very old, I’m very young for a football manager”, he was reportedly quoted by Mirror.
“A coach gets better and better until the motivation is gone, and in my case I love it more and more and more. I like the challenge. I want to fight. I want to play. I want to coach every day.”

Sure there will still be days to wail and rave, but squaring up to your colleagues in a manner that could warrant war of words is arbitrarily not in the scripts. Never. Not with an iota of doubt. At least we know Tottenham are not winning the Champions League next season, and while there can be no shame in expressing oneself, he’d rather spare us the gibbering because you will agree it makes little or no sense.
For a man who has won everything that is to win in club football, he could be forgiven for going over with this one. Or could it be fear? That is one thing not synonymous with the Portuguese everywhere he’s been, right?
But screw you, Mou. Screw you. Reason. You picked a wrong time. We don’t care here. And I’m almost sure Pep and Klopp don’t too! If you would excuse me, my goldfish is thirsty.
