Jets GM Admits He’s Ready To Take Calls On Sam Darnold

Sam Darnold’s fate appears to be pretty clear. He’s not going to be the quarterback of the New York Jets next season. Sure, Jets general manager Joe Douglas is going to say all the right things when it comes to the young Darnold. He’s going to say he likes his work ethic, thinks he can play, and will be considered as an option. But at the end of the day, the writing is on the wall for Sam Darnold.

Joe Douglas was not the GM when Darnold was drafted. New coach Robert Saleh didn’t pick Darnold. They’re going to want to bring in “their guy”. Douglas finally admitted today that he was willing to accept calls on Sam Darnold.

“I will answer the call if it’s made. We think Sam is a dynamic playmaker in this league with dynamic talent. But if calls are made, I will answer them,” Joe Douglas said during a press conference today.

Sam Darnold has shown flashes during his three seasons as Jets quarterback. However, he’s 13-25 as the team’s starting QB. Now, Darnold has not had a lot to work with, he had to deal with all the bullshit that came with Adam Gase, but he also just didn’t impress enough to warrant keeping him around when you have the #2 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

I think there will be a market for Sam Darnold. San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has been reportedly interested in making a move for the young quarterback. I could also see him being a fit with the Bears or Redskins, who are both desperately looking to fill a void at the QB position to take them over the hump.

Sam Darnold is still just 23-years-old. He has a long future ahead of him. He could still be a success in the NFL. It just won’t be with the New York Jets.
