CFB Insiders Speculate That Lane Kiffin May Leave Ole Miss For The Oregon Job

Would Lane Kiffin leave Ole Miss for the Oregon Ducks job?

After Mario Cristobal jumped ship for the Miami Hurricanes many were wondering: where does Oregon turn now?

Initially, people were looking at other head coaches around the country who could potentially be pried from their current gig to head to Upstate Oregon.

Baylor’s Dave Aranda came to minds, at first.

Shortly after the dust settled on the Aranda rumors, a bigger name crossed the minds of some people around college football.

What about Lane Kiffin?

“I think if you’re smart, you bounce right now if you’re Lane,” Bud Elliott of 247Sports said. “You take advantage of the teams that were down — again LSU was down, Auburn was down, Texas A&M was 8-4. Bama was even gettable, and you couldn’t get them. I think you saw that you’re pretty much tapped. I think you cash out that one more time if you can.”

CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli shared the same sentiment when talking on the possibility of Lane Kiffin leaving Ole Miss for Oregon.

“I think that Oregon is a place where you can compete for national titles,” Fornelli said. “There aren’t a lot of those jobs around. Oregon has been to the College Football Playoff. USC hasn’t. So I think that with the financial backing that you have there with Nike, you can win national titles. It might be harder to get guys to Oregon from California, but Chip Kelly didn’t really have any problem pulling guys from California, Texas up to Eugene when things were rolling. And I don’t think if you get things rolling there, you’re gonna have much of a problem. Because it is a big brand. It is in the Pac-12, and if it’s competing for Pac-12 titles and it’s in the playoff regularly, I think Lane Kiffin would be able to recruit to Oregon pretty well.”

Lane Kiffin would obviously be a slam-dunk hire for Oregon, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.

Ole Miss is currently looking like they’re on the rise – earning a New Years Day bowl bid this season. And also, Kiffin just inked a hefty contract extension with The Rebels earlier in the week.

For now, Lane Kiffin is in it for the long haul with Ole Miss. But as we’ve seen in the past, he’s not afraid to jump ship if a better offer comes to his table.

Oregon should at least kick the tires…
