Medina Spirit’s Owner, Bob Baffert, Blames ‘Cancel Culture’ For Steroid Use Backlash

Bob Baffert is trying to cover himself by making some media rounds on Monday morning following the news that his horse, Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit, tested positive for a steroid. Following the news, Churchill Downs (where the Derby is ran) released a statement, banning Baffert indefinitely.

“It is our understanding that Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit’s post-race blood sample indicated a violation of the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s equine medication protocols,” Churchill Downs said in a news release. “The connections of Medina Spirit have the right to request a test of a split sample, and we understand they intend to do so.

Bob Baffert is now lashing out against the notion that Medina Spirit was taking illegal steroids prior to his historic run. Baffert is also claiming that ‘cancel culture’ is part of the reason why this story has blown up so much.

Bob Baffert certainly sounds like a guy who’s in scramble mode. It’s entirely possible that he knew of Medina Spirit being injected with the illegal steroid, and knows if he doesn’t try to squash the whole thing, he’s screwed.

It’ll be interesting to see if Bob Baffert’s horses will be allowed to race while we await the results of the steroid investigation.
