Michael Irvin Names the Best Current NFL Receiver

The playmaker knows the Wide Receiver position as well as anyone.

Hall of Famer Michael Irvin and former NFL wideout turned analyst Nate Burleson recently debated the topic on NFL Network. Considering all the different facets of a wide receiver, Irvin determined Green Bay Packers star Davante Adams is currently the best wide receiver in the league.

“This is a hard question because receiving comes in so many great packages — the most feared, the most explosive, all of those things — but just pure best, may not be the biggest, strongest, or the fastest, but when he puts it all together — Davante Adams is the best. Bar none,” Irvin said. “He’s got one of those great dudes back there at quarterback, but right now, everybody knows that he’s trying to go to Davante Adams. It doesn’t matter that everybody knows. You could take your best cornerback and put him on Davante Adams, it doesn’t matter. You can’t just win when people expect you to win, but even when they put their best on you. Davante Adams, he still wins.”

Part of it is Adams has Rodgers throwing him the ball. Guys like Rodgers take good receivers and make them look great.

Through seven games this season, Adams is tied for the second-most targets with 73. He’s also tied for second in receptions and third in yards, having caught 52 passes for 744 yards and an average of 14.3 yards per catch.

Adams will be out this Thursday as the Packers face the Cardinals.
