Robert Enke’s Widow Slams Boris Becker For His Take On Naomi Osaka Skipping Wimbledon

Tennis star Naomi Osaka has been under fire since she cited mental health as a reason for withdrawing from the French Open a couple of weeks ago.

Osaka had originally refused to speak with the media, and after being heavily scrutinized, she took time off while she deals with anxiety and depression.

This week, Wimbledon legend Boris Becker chimed in on the Naomi Osaka situation, claiming she’s in the wrong business if she cannot speak with the media.

“If you can’t deal with the media, it’s very difficult to be a professional tennis player,” Becker told the Times via The Sun.

“The tour isn’t possible without the press. And it’s difficult to make your prize money or money for your sponsors without the media. “It’s not something we look forward to. But it’s part of the job. You have to learn to deal with it. Is that really pressure?

“Isn’t it pressure when you don’t have food on the table? When you’ve got to feed your family and you don’t have a job? “When you have a life-changing injury? Isn’t that more pressure? “You’re 23, you’re healthy, you’re wealthy, your family is good. Where’s the f***ing pressure?”

Now, Robert Enke’s widow, Teresa, is speaking out against Boris Becker.

“Dear Boris Becker, Are you serious? Naomi Osaka is not healthy,” Teresa Enke said in a translated comment. “Depression is not a question of money, success or luxury.

“Depression is an illness that unfortunately can hit anyone.”

Robert Enke was the German goalkeeper who took his own life after battling mental illness in 2009.

Since then, Teresa Enke has created a foundation to raise awareness about mental health, and has often done everything in her power to help people in need.

Props to Teresa Enke for telling Boris Becker off. Naomi Osaka should take all the time she needs to get her mind right.
