New Report Indicates Doug Pederson Was Treated Unfairly By Howie Roseman, Jeffrey Lurie

Doug Pederson’s reputation took a hit in recent years, and he was ultimately fired by the Philadelphia Eagles at the end of last season. Pederson was very successful with the Eagles. He won a Super Bowl, and went 42-37-1 during his time at the helm for Philly.

So what went wrong? According to a new report by The Athletic, Pederson was dealing with an overbearing Eagles brass who wanted to turn him into their puppet.

According to the article, Pederson was criticized after every game by Howie Roseman, who wanted to take more on an analytical approach to the team.

“(Pederson) was ridiculed and criticized for every decision,” one source told The Athletic. “If you won by three, it wasn’t enough. If you lost on a last-second field goal, you’re the worst coach in history.”

A lot of the issues between Doug Pederson and the Eagles reportedly stemmed from vice president of football operations, Alec Halaby, who runs the teams analytics department. According to people around the team, Halaby was trying to turn the team away from Pederson’s straight-forward approach to the game.

“Within the building, he’s perceived as Howie’s guy,” said one source. “That’s a problem. … No coach wants somebody around who they think is undermining the perception of how well they’re doing.”

The front office was trying to be so controlling of Pederson, that one source went far enough to say that the head coach was, “treated like a baby.”

The Eagles now have a young coach in Nick Sirianni who will likely share the vision of Howie Roseman, Jeffrey Lurie, and the rest of the Eagles brass. It sure seems like they hired the guy who will let the front office run the organization with no questions asked. That type of environment is very rarely conducive to winning.

It’s starting to look like Doug Pederson may have been ran out of town slowly over the past three years. Like him or not, no coach deserves that sort of treatment after winning a Super Bowl.

The Eagles look like they’re headed down a path that’ll lead them no where fast.
