Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving finally breaks his silence on his thought process when it comes to the COVID vaccine

In a huge shocker, Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving has found himself as the center of NBA news with the season right around the corner.

This time, the drama surrounding the dynamic guard has to do with his refusal to take the COVID vaccine.

New York has set a mandate which prohibits anyone who is unvaccinated from attending games at the Barclays Center, so Kyrie Irving would currently have to sit out all of his team’s home games and forfeit his game check for those games.

When speaking on Wednesday, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio sent a message to Kyrie Irving, basically pleading with him to get vaccinated.

“I really want to see Kyrie get vaccinated, I want to see the whole team stay healthy and safe this whole season,” de Blasio said. “We have a chance to win the championship for Brooklyn. It’s staring us in the face, let’s go get it. It’s an amazing, amazing team. I want everyone [to be] safe and healthy. It’ll be a great moment for Brooklyn when they win that championship.”

When speaking about his unvaccinated status during Nets media day earlier in the week, Kyrie Irving deflected.

“Again, I would like to keep all that private,” Irving said. “Please just respect my privacy. Like, at all the questions kind of leading into what’s happening, you know, just, please, everything will be released at a new date, once we get this cleared up. But as of right now, just please respect my privacy regarding anything on home games, what’s happening, vaccination. Please.”

Some reports have indicated that Kyrie Irving is still open to taking the shot before the season begins. But with this guy, you never really know.
