Parole Reversed For Man Who Helped Kill Michael Jordan’s Father

Michael Jordan is most likely pretty happy about this news.

Larry Demery, who was convicted in the murder of Michael Jordan’s father in 1996, was granted parole in 2020. But this week without giving a reason, state Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission reversed course, according to WECT.

“The decision to grant parole to one of two men convicted in the 1993 murder of Michael Jordan’s father has been rescinded.

In August 2020, the N.C. Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission announced that it had granted parole to Larry M. Demery and he would be released on Aug. 6, 2023. In June 2021, the commission stated that Demery’s release date would be pushed back to Aug. 6, 2024.

But the commission reversed course Tuesday when it announced that Demery’s parole agreement has been terminated effective immediately. No reason was given in the commission’s news release Tuesday.

Demery was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree murder, armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery in 1996 in the fatal shooting of James Jordan.

According to ESPN, Demery is serving his sentence at a minimum security prison outside of Charlotte. Demery’s record shows 19 infractions lodged against him since 2001, including two for “substance possession” earlier this month.

At the time of Jordan’s father’s murder, Michael Jordan  just won a third NBA championship with the Chicago Bulls.

His close relationship with his father was well-documented, and many people believe the tragedy forced him into early retirement.

Some still believe MJ was forced to retire due to his gambling issues. . .
