New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is not a fan of the double-standard the MLB is working under after their latest attempt to get pitchers to stop putting foreign substances on the baseball.

The MLB is now going through routine checks of baseballs used on a daily basis to crack down on pitchers using substances to create spin.

New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole was the latest pitcher who has been accused of using sticky substances by other players and members of the media.

While a lot of fans are up-in-arms with pitchers continuing to doctor the baseball, Pete Alonso doesn’t care in the slightest. In fact, Alonso is way more worried about what the MLB is doing with the baseball on a yearly basis.

“That’s a fact,” Alonso said when pushed about his belief that the MLB actually changes the ball based on free agency . “In 2019, there was a huge class of free agent pitchers, and that’s ‘the juiced balls.’ And then 2020 was a strange year with the COVID season, but now that we’re back to playing a regular season with a ton of shortstops or position players that are going to be paid a lot of money… it’s not a coincidence. It definitely is something that they do.”

It’s not like Pete Alonso is the first person to call out the MLB for ‘juicing’ the baseball.

During the COVID-shortened 2020 season, the MLB was under fire from many fans, players and members of the media when the ball was flying out of the park at an unprecedented rate.

It was never confirmed or denied that the MLB was ‘juicing’ the ball, but it’s not like their vague explanations over the course of the season instilled confidence in anyone.

Good for Pete Alonso to call out the league on their BS. We need more young, exciting players to speak out during this critical time for the overall growth of the game of baseball.
