Sam Darnold Opens Up About Feeling ‘Unwanted’ With The Jets

With the #2 overall pick in the upcoming draft in their pocket, the New York Jets made their decision on Sam Darnold.

New York traded Darnold to the Panthers, meaning they’ll undoubtedly be drafting their next QB later in the month.

While the Jets appear to be all set on BYU’s Zach Wilson as their next quarterback, Sam Darnold talked about how relieving it was to find a new home after so much uncertainty.

“There’s a little bit of both — relief and excitement,” Darnold said via Panthers.com. “There’s been so much uncertainty this offseason, not knowing what your future was going to look like, that was hard.

“But now that I’m in Charlotte, I’m excited, and yeah, I guess I am kind of relieved to be here.”

Darnold would go on to talk about how feeling wanted is the main source of his excitement, even though he will also enjoy having much better weapons and play-callers with the Panthers.

“To go from being unwanted to being wanted is huge,” Darnold said. “Getting that news that you’re going to be traded, of a team saying, ‘Hey, we didn’t want you,” for whatever reason, is hard.

“But right now, I feel great about it, and I’m excited to get here, and get started.”

Sam Darnold is still only 23-years-old, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he can become a serviceable starting quarterback with the Carolina Panthers.
