Seattle Mariners President Kevin Mather Resigns After Inappropriate Comments About Foreign Players

Seattle Mariners president Kevin Mather has resigned amid backlash from comments he made about foreign-born players.

Mather joined a virtual meeting over the Winter where he talked at length about his team. During his talk, he made some jokes about members of his organization not being able to speak english very well. Mather also talked openly about manipulating how long players stay in the Minor Leagues in order to get more service time from them.

Kevin Mather would later apologize for his dumbass comments.

Mariners Chairman John Stanton released a statement condemning Mather for his comments.

“His comments were inappropriate and do not represent our organizations’ feelings about our players, staff and fans,” Stanton said in a statement. “There is no excuse for what was said, and I won’t try to make one. I offer my sincere apology on behalf of the club and my partners to our players and fans. We can, and must, do better.”

Stanton will now take over as the team’s president until the role is filled.

It’s hard to imagine that Kevin Mather will find a job in the MLB anytime soon. These comments might just be too much to come back from. I hope it was worth it for him to sound like a real “guy’s guy” during this video session, though. Good thing the video found its way into the public.

There’s no room for Kevin Mather in the MLB.
