Seattle’s Long Awaited NHL Team Is Finally Here And The New Promos Are Absolutely Hype

Release the Kraken! The NHL awarded Seattle an expansion franchise back in the year 2018. Since then, fans have been obsessing over names, logos, branding, etc. The team won’t make its debut until the 2021-2022 season, but the NHL’s newest hockey franchise is officially here. The Seattle Kraken. The team recently released a video to promote the new team and it’s the most hype thing I’ve seen in a long time.

The Seattle Kraken will begin putting together their roster via the expansion draft in the Summer of the year 2021. Following, they will play their first preseason game in September and take the ice for the first time at the brand new Climate Pledge Arena in October of 2021. I thought the Vegas Golden Knights were an unreal expansion team, but this is the next level.

“The Kraken is a name born of the fans,’’ NHL Seattle CEO Tod Leiweke said in announcing the widely-anticipated decision at a Thursday morning news conference at the site of what was formerly KeyArena. “It was suggested and championed by the fans.’’ Leiweke reported that the team has launched a website selling “Release The Kraken!’’ merchandise with all profits going to local nonprofits YouthCare, the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, and Community Passageways.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so hyped for hockey in my entire life. The Kraken is one of the most intriguing mythological creatures. Its origins are tied to Scandanavian folklore. According to the legends, the Kraken lives in the Northern Atlantic Ocean off the coasts of Norway and Greenland. I know, you’re thinking Seattle is in the state of Washington which borders the Pacific rather than the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a valid point, but I wouldn’t care if I were a hockey fan living in Seattle. The city is getting a hockey franchise. That is definitely something to get excited about.

Release the Kraken! Welcome to the NHL Seattle Kraken. If the Kraken’s team trajectory is anything like the Golden Knights’ then Seattle has some great hockey coming their way in the next few years.
