If you’re over the age of 30, you probably remember the one-time budget TV show “Where in the World is Carmen San Diego,” a concept game show where kids answered geography questions to win prizes in order to track down the elusive Carmen Sandiego, who’s hiding somewhere in the world. The theme song alone was worth the price of admission.
“ALL THESE PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW: Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego.”
Our own Ben Rasa, whose previous ideas include Zoo Taxi and Jeopardy Treadmill, was wondering the same thing. Yes, in this latest edition of Selachimorpha Container, Ben pitches his idea for a Carmen Sandiego movie, starring Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling.
Now, I was a huge fan of Treadmill Jeopardy — a trivia game where contestants on treadmills get punished for wrong answers — but I’m going with weak sauce on this one. Sorry Rasa. Don’t get me wrong, I’d watch the Carmen Sandiego movie staring Eva Mendes, but you get minus points for idea originality. There’s NO way 15 million Hollywood movie execs haven’t thought the same thing. In fact, there’s a Netflix show coming out soon.
At the end of the day though, Ben’s contention that people always tell him they’d pay to see it? Well that’s spot on. High product value, jewel heist. Eva Mendes. I’ll attend around the 5th week after it’s been released.
