For the second straight day, a New York Mets pitcher was trending on Twitter. After Jacob deGrom sent social media on what could only be described as a roller-coaster ride on Saturday, Marcus Stroman made sure to have a moment of his own this afternoon.

When I say “baseball web gems”, you’re probably most apt to think of a diving catch by an outfielder. Or maybe a home run robbery at the wall. Perhaps a diving stop on a hard-hit grounder and throw to first by an infielder is in your immediate mental bank for the term.

Pitchers can make their fair share of highlight-reel fielding plays too. It’s hard to top Stroman’s from today’s game.

HOW DID HE DO THAT?!?! Stroman literally makes the play facing first base! He just sorta sticks his glove out behind his rear and snares it. Incredible.

To top it all off, the fact that the throw gets to first on like 10 hops yet still beats the runner is just hilarious. Shoot, it’s hard enough to field a hard-hit grounder playing it straight up. Trust me, I know. You see a lot when you umpire Little League games. Probably more throws to first like that one than behind-the-back snares, but you see a lot all the same.

Stroman’s comments during his postgame presser are the cherry on top of this instant highlight.

What a clash between the shirt and the press conference backdrop too. Stroman truly had it all working today. In addition to the amazing play, he allowed just three hits and one run over eight innings in the Mets’ win. He and deGrom form a very nasty 1-2 punch atop the rotation.

Twitter sure was loving every bit of the epic play:

It may only be April, but after this weekend, Mets fans are most certainly feeling it.
