There is little doubt that Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence will be the #1 overall pick in the NFL at the end of the month. So naturally, fans want to know a little bit more about the guy. How he goes about his business, what makes him tick, what his mindset is, etc.

Luckily, Sports Illustrated’s Michael Rosenberg did a whole long interview with Lawrence and members of his family as they prepare for his future as an NFL quarterback.

āIām passionate about what I do and itās really important to me, but I donāt have this chip on my shoulder. I canāt manufacture that. I donāt want to.ā https://t.co/OzQzoe5uIn pic.twitter.com/VfjDEdACnw

Some comments that Trevor Lawrence made turned some heads for NFL fans. Mainly, that he doesn’t approach the game like he has something to prove at all times.
āI want to do it because I want to be the best I can be. I want to maximize my potential. Who wouldnāt want to? You kind of waste it if you donāt.ā
Itās hard to explain that because I want people to know that Iām passionate about what I do and itās really important to me, but . . . I donāt have this huge chip on my shoulder, that everyoneās out to get me and Iām trying to prove everybody wrong,āItās hard to explain that because I want people to know that Iām passionate about what I do and itās really important to me, but . . . I donāt have this huge chip on my shoulder, that everyoneās out to get me and Iām trying to prove everybody wrong,ā he says. āI just donāt have that. I canāt manufacture that. I donāt want to.ā Marissa adds, āThereās also more in life than playing football.ā
āYeah,ā Trevor says. āAnd I think people mistake that for being a competitor. . . . I think thatās unhealthy to a certain extent, just always thinking that youāve got to prove somebody wrong, youāve got to do more, youāve got to be better.ā
Trevor Lawrence’s dad added that he’s not really only about winning the Super Bowl.
“Trevor has always been like this. Everybody in the family says that off the football field, Marissa, who played soccer at Division II Anderson University, is more competitive than he is. His father says, āHeās not award-driven. Heās not, āI want to win a Super Bowl at all costs.ā ā
While some fans might see this as a red flag, I think it’s quite the opposite. Trevor Lawrence has a good head on his shoulders, knows who he is, and he isn’t afraid to be introspective when talking about how he approaches the game that he devotes his life to. I think this is refreshing in a day-in-age where so many athletes continuously throw cliche after cliche out there when talking about their sport.
Trevor Lawrence isn’t afraid to show the world who he is, and he’ll likely be a bonafide stud in the NFL.
