EPL DFS Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Lineups | Feb. 5
These are listed in order of what I believe are the top plays, including median projection, floor and upside.
EPL DFS Picks: Forwards/ Midfielder
James Ward-Prowse (DraftKings $7,900, FanDuel $18)
Danny Ings (DraftKings $7,100, FanDuel $19)
With Manchester United looking like a clear option to target, we need to find salary relief. Southampton goes on the road to face Newcastle, whose home defense is middle of the EPL pack. Southampton has a below-average road offense. Their recent poor performances to Manchester United, Aston Villa and Arsenal have contributed to their price drop. Newcastle in their recent home form has been bleeding out 1.6 expected goals per match. Southampton is in a sneaky spot for leverage.
James Ward-Prowse controls the set pieces to the tune of six crosses per match. He averages 2.57 shots/assisted shots per match, with 2.85 won tackles/interceptions. He has the floor and price range to hit 2x value without contributing on the scoresheet. Ward-Prowse is a cash core play for me and GPP option to free up goal-hunting options.
Danny Ings is a goal hunting option. His struggles have seen his price dip, and he needs a goal to pay off the discounted rate. He is averaging 2 shots per match and hits target at a 53% accuracy clip. He is a GPP option, given his lack of floor. Ings also has scored in 43% of his appearances and was a top-five goal scorer in the EPL a season ago. A cheaper goal-hunting option would be Che Adams, who will surpass 2x value on any contribution.
Michail Antonio (DraftKings $8,800 FanDuel $20)
Jesse Lingard (DraftKings $4,900 FanDuel $14)
West Ham will visit Fulham on this slate. Fulham is fourth worst in the EPL in home defense, while West Ham sports the fourth-best offense on the road. Michail Antonio comes with a high asking price. I still would pay up for him in all formats given the matchup and offensive impact since returning from injury. He is averaging 3.5 shots and assisted shots per match and can draw fouls at a rate of 1.78 per match. The West Ham penalty man has contributed on 23% of their scoring, and his ownership should come in low due to the price and presence of Manchester United’s attack.
Jesse Lingard will probably not see another brace. His price will still catch interest and is worth the punt. He took 6 shots in his first start for West Ham, which is a tall task to repeat. Dating back to his previous runs, he averaged an impressive 2.22 shots per match in starts over a three-year Manchester United stint. In that same run he contributed on scoring for the club on 35% of his starts. Tomas Soucek also provides volume shooting as a GPP pivot with a plus matchup.
James Rodriguez (DraftKings $8,200 FanDuel $17)
Bruno Fernandes (DraftKings $9,500 FanDuel $23)
This match between Manchester United and Everton looks to be the highest expected total on the slate. Manchester United imposes a threatening attack but lacks defense. James Rodriguez should get the start here and is too cheap. Manchester United commit the third-most fouls at 12.4 per match. Rodriguez draws fouls at an average of 1.85 per match, with an uptick to 2.01 when facing comparable opponents. His floor is high with set-piece shares and 4.57 crosses per match. The attack sees an average 3.78 shots/assisted shots per match with 50% goal contribution in his appearances.
Bruno Fernandes is a play in all formats. Even though I am not as high on Manchester United, Fernandes is the one-off choice for me. His numbers speak for themselves, with 6.31 shots/assisted shots and 4.81 crosses per match. His opportunities on target are limitless, with direct set-piece monopoly, shot volume and PK command. He is contributing on the scoresheet in 95% of his appearances and brings brace upside to any match.
Goal-hunting options for this match include Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is still underpriced, even for a goal-or-bust player. His shot volume of 2.78 per match and 63% goal scoring in appearances make him a great GPP play. Anthony Martial is a cheap exposure to the Manchester United attack and offers similar scoring upside to Marcus Rashford at a significant discount.
Other Options: Richarlison (DraftKings $7,400, FanDuel $15), Dwight McNeil (DraftKings $6,900, FanDuel $9) Pascal Gross (DraftKings $9,200, FanDuel $13), Callum Wilson (DraftKings $7,900, FanDuel $16), Takumi Minamino (DraftKings $6,200, FanDuel $13).
EPL DFS Picks: Defense
Aaron Cresswell (DraftKings $5,800 FanDuel $12)
Lucas Digne (DraftKings $6,600 FanDuel $14)
Luke Shaw or Alex Telles will garner ownership, depending on who starts. I like the pivot to Aaron Cresswell. Cresswell takes set corners for West Ham and has the plus matchup. His floor is safe with 5.81 crosses and 2.04 shots/assisted shots per match, making him a core play option.
Lucas Digne is a GPP pivot for scoring upside. He averages 7.25 crosses and 1.83 assisted shots per match. His price will likely keep his ownership down, considering Shaw and Cresswell are in the same range. Digne’s offensive contributions since returning make him worth the leverage over Shaw.
Other Options: Vladimir Coufal (DraftKings $5,200, FanDuel $13), Ben White (DraftKings $3,800, FanDuel $8) Yerry Mina (DraftKings $3,600, FanDuel $11).
