Burnley (+195) vs. Leicester City (+140), O/U 2.5
Newcastle (+100) vs. Watford (+270), O/U 2.5
Norwich City (+260) vs. Everton (+105), O/U 2.5
Wolverhampton (+135) vs. Southampton (+230), O/U 2.5
Aston Villa (+180) vs. Manchester United (+140), O/U 2.5
Dominic Calvert- Lewin (DraftKings: $9,100, FanDuel $20)
Anthony Gordon (DraftKings: $7,800, FanDuel $11)
Everton travels to take on Norwich City. Everton has struggled on the road this season with just 1.01 expected goals per match. Norwich continues their struggles, allowing an EPL bottom tier rank of 1.46 expected goals per match. Their actual goals allowed eclipse this mark and rank them third worst in the EPL with 1.90 per match. Everton is desperate to come out of this fixture with three points and will rely on Dominic Calvert- Lewin and co to make it happen
Calvert- Lewin is nursing back from an injury and will handle the PK for his club. He also missed from that very spot in his previous outing. At the high salary he will need to find the back of the net and the length of time on the pitch is a concern with little matches under his belt since healing. The English international is always a scoring threat when on the pitch and the matchup is ripe for the taking. His salary and minutes concerns make him a GPP play only. A pivot off Calvert- Lewin for salary relief is Richarlison. Both attackers worked well in seasons past while on the pitch, mirroring each other’s shot volume at averages over 2.35 per match and creating scoring chances for one another in open play. Richarlison is a goal-hunting option in all formats with a discounted price and drawn fouls to add value to shot volume with scoring upside.
Anthony Gordon has taken his share of set pieces and done well with accurate shooting in recent form, hitting target over 60% of the attempts. The only threat to the floor for Gordon would be if Andros Townsend sees the starting eleven. Gordon is still a solid option at the salary with offensive involvement but would slot into GPP category with Townsend due to a split in set shares. If Townsend is out, Gordon is too cheap for the floor and offensive upside.
James Maddison (DraftKings: $8,700, FanDuel $17)
The lack of success for Leicester City has been due to poor defending. Their offense has done its part to keep them in matches and now will carry on without the services of Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho. Vardy is injured, and Iheanacho is at the Africa Cup of Nations. James Maddison will look to take on more attempts at the net and should see an uptick on his average 2.79 shots per match. His accuracy sits at 44% and he builds a floor on set shares with 3.87 crosses per match. Maddison leads the club with 3.41 scoring chances created and adds value to his output with 3.10 drawn fouls per match. The match up against Burnley is tough on the road, but they are dealing with missing attackers as well and will have difficulty keeping the possession away from Maddison and company.
The presence up top of Patson Daka and Ademola Lookman provide scoring upside, but their high prices keep them as GPP options without a floor to build on and as mentioned above the road match against Burnley, who allows 1.08 expected goals per match. The wildcard in this match is Youri Tielemans. He comes in with a high price of $7,000 but will be in line to take the PK sets for Leicester. Tielemans does well from the midfield to get involved offensively, trailing only Maddison in created scoring chances and contributing on 22% of the club’s overall scoring. He takes his own share of sets and adds value with 3.02 won tackles and interceptions per match.
Leicester weakness on defense provides some value on the Burnley side of the pitch. Their attackers are missing, and Chris Wood is on his way to Newcastle, where he likely sits on the bench. Leicester City is the fifth worst club in the EPL in terms of kept clean sheets, at just 16% on the year. Dwight McNeil is a floor option despite the high price, but Ashley Westwood comes in at a decent price of $5,200 with possible PK sets and indirect set shares. Jay Rodriguez is the goal-hunting threat with a $5,000 salary so it will not kill lineups if he fails to find the back of the net. Rodriguez averages 3.66 shots per match in his limited run in the starting eleven.
Other Options: Allan Saint-Maximin (DraftKings: $8,200, FanDuel: $18), Jonjo Shelvey (DraftKings: $5,800, FanDuel: $12), Emmanuel Dennis (DraftKings: $8,600, FanDuel: $19), Tom Cleverley (DraftKings: $5,500, FanDuel: $11), Joshua King (DraftKings: $7,200, FanDuel: $17), Che Adams (DraftKings: $7,400, FanDuel: $17), James Ward-Prowse (DraftKings: $9,500, FanDuel: $18), Daniel Podence (DraftKings: $8,000, FanDuel: $15), Raul Jimenez (DraftKings: $5,100, FanDuel: $17). Ollie Watkins ( FanDuel: $17). Emiliano Buendia (FanDuel: $13). Cristiano Ronaldo (FanDuel: $22)
Rayan Ait-Nouri (DraftKings: $6,300, FanDuel: $12)
Wolverhampton welcome Southampton. Wolverhampton are a tough matchup defensively while Southampton has relied on offense to hide their defensive leaks. Similar to Leicester City, Southampton has a number of defenders injured. Wolverhampton rely on counter punches and high press attack from the wings. Rayan Ait-Nouri handles indirect set shares and does well with deliveries in open play. He averages 4.75 crosses per match via sets and open play while solidifying the floor with an average seven won tackles and interceptions per match. His salary is massive at the defender spot but so is his floor with a clean sheet bonus. Wolverhampton average a clean sheet% well above EPL average at 42.1% of their matches.
At home they allow zero goals in three of their previous four outings. The one match they conceded was one goal to the high-octane offense of Liverpool. The odds have both clubs as plus money on the return which should sway ownership mixed between the two clubs or away all together. Wolverhampton are a solid leverage play with Ait-Nouri and goalkeeper Jose Sa. The salary on Raul Jimenez allows for salary relief to attack the options from Everton and Newcastle which are in prime scoring positions.
Other Options: Matt Ritchie (DraftKings: $6,000, FanDuel: $11), Jonjo Kenny (DraftKings: $5,500, FanDuel: $9), Matthew Lowton (DraftKings: $5,100, FanDuel: $12). Alex Telles (FanDuel: $13)
Jose Sa (DraftKings: $4,900, FanDuel: $11)
Jordan Pickford (DraftKings: $5,300, FanDuel: $12)
