UCL DFS Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Lineups | Feb. 23
These are listed in order of what I believe are the top plays, including median projection, floor and upside.
UCL DFS Picks: Forwards/Midfielders
Joshua Kimmich (DraftKings $8,400, FanDuel $16)
The Champions League battle between Lazio and Bayern Munich looks to have a number of goals. Lazio is middle of the pack in Serie A, allowing an expected goals of 1.31 per match. They will face a much tougher offense than in the Serie A. Bayern Munich sports the first overall offense in the Bundesliga, with an expected goals of 2.16 per match. Bayern’s defense allows 1.34 expected goals per match and see a Lazio offense that produces 1.41 expected goals per match.
Joshua Kimmich handles the set-piece shares for the visitors and provides the highest floor on the slate. He averages 8.014 crosses per match split through sets and open play. He averages 1.53 shots per match and leads his club in created chances at 4.94 per match. The goal-hunting option for Bayern is Robert Lewandowski, who sits second overall in the Bundesliga in shot volume, at 4.13 per match, and leads in overall scoring with 1.36 goals scored per match.
On the wing, Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman. Both wingers are explosive for their respective clubs and sit behind Lewandowski in shot volume, at over 2.55 a piece per match. They also fall just behind Kimmich in assists, contributing on the scoresheet in over 60% of their appearances each.
Luis Alberto (DraftKings $7,000, FanDuel $15)
Lazio looks to stay in this match by way of offense. Luis Alberto handles the set shares and ranks second on the club in scoring. He averages 2.41 shots and creates 4.26 scoring chances per match. The goal hunting option for Lazio is none other than Ciro Immobile. Immobile sits fifth overall in Serie A in shot volume with 3.31 per match and sits third in scoring with 14 goals scored.
On the wing, Manuel Lazzari offers salary relief at sub $4,500 and Joaquin Correa comes in with created chances surpassing Alberto at 4.38 per match. Both Lazzari and Correa are GPP plays, as their floors are not enough to hit value. Correa does provide upside with shot volume in the range of two per match and drawn fouls at a clip of 2.84 per match.
Mason Mount (DraftKings $7,500, FanDuel $17)
Chelsea has a tough matchup on the road against Atletico Madrid. Atletico is a top overall defense in the world and rank first overall in La Liga, with an expected goals allowed of 0.78 per match. Mason Mount is the top play from this matchup when you consider the floor and upside. Mount ranks second on the club with 2.23 shots per match and builds his floor of 6.57 crosses per match. He sits second on Chelsea in scoring chances created, at 4.74, and draws 1.33 fouls per match.
Up front, we have a slight discount on Timo Werner due to the unfavorable matchup. He sits third in the club in shot volume at 2.66 per match and hits the target at a 37% accuracy clip. Werner needs a goal even at under $7,000 asking price, but his ownership should remain low and provide as much ownership leverage as a two game slate can have.
On the other side of the pitch, Atletico Madrid creates over 1.3 expected goals per match at home. They are lead in the scoring department by Luis Suarez. Suarez is averaging just under a goal per match and sits fourth overall in La Liga in shot volume with 3.74 shots per match. Suarez hits target at a 40.7% accuracy clip and comes in as a pivot off the higher priced Lewandowski and Immobile when comparing goal hunters.
Other Options: Joao Felix (DraftKings $7,200, FanDuel $17), Koke (DraftKings $4,000, FanDuel $9), Lucas Leiva (DraftKings $3,000, FanDuel $8), Marcos Llorente (DraftKings $6,200, FanDuel $13).
UCL DFS Picks: Defender
Reece James (DraftKings $5,400 FanDuel $13)
Renan Lodi (DraftKings $4,500 FanDuel $11)
Defenders have a few explosive options on this slate. Reece James provides open-play crossing volume at a rate of 5.37 per match. He has a tough matchup and tracking back could see more fouls committed than his 1.37 per match. The offensive upside is there with 2.43 scoring chances per match and 1.55 shots. His price will keep his ownership down making him a solid GPP option.
Renan Lodi offers salary relief and offensive upside. The Brazilian international builds his floor of 4.62 open-play crosses per match and 4.62 won tackles and interceptions. He is not a known scorer but is not shy to shoot from the wing and all you need is one to beat the keeper. His price is low enough to hit 2x value without goal involvement, making him a cash option, which allows salary to pay up for high floor plays.
Other Options: Francesco Acerbi (DraftKings $4,000, FanDuel $14), Niklas Sule (DraftKings $3,700, FanDuel $15), Lucas Hernandez (DraftKings $5,300, FanDuel $12).
Goalkeepers
Jan Oblak (DraftKings $4,800 FanDuel $10)
Edouard Mendy (DraftKings $4,600 FanDuel $9)
