UCL DFS Picks Today: DraftKings & FanDuel Fantasy Soccer Lineups
Ajax (-278) vs. Benfica (+650), over/under 3.5
Manchester United (+115) vs. Atletico Madrid (+260), over/under 2.5
Dusan Tadic (DraftKings: $9,700, FanDuel $19)
Sebastian Haller (DraftKings: $10,200, FanDuel $21)
Ajax will play host to Benfica. The series is tied two apiece, and both teams will be pressed to finish off the match and not chance penalties. Dusan Tadic leads the way for the home side that averages 2.96 goals per match. Tadic contributes on 32.8% of their scoring and builds a floor with 9.55 crosses per match. His shot volume of 2.27 per match is met with an on-target rate of 44%, making him a core play on both sites. On FanDuel GPP Antony can be paired with Sebastian Haller. Antony comes in with a higher volume of 4.01 shots per match. His on-target rate sits slightly below at 35%. The goal-hunting approach would bring leverage to a high owned Tadic in this spot.
Haller is the top goal hunter. Ajax has posted multi-goal matches in nine of their previous 11 outings. Haller is atop the scoring list for the club and contributes on 35.6% of their scoring. He handles the penalties and averages 3.96 shots per match at an on-target rate of 45.3%. His floor with on-target strikes is a better play on FanDuel. On DraftKings he needs to find the back of the net to pay off the massive price tag.
Joao Felix (DraftKings: $7,000, FanDuel $17)
Cristiano Ronaldo (DraftKings: $7,500, FanDuel $20)
Manchester United and Atletico Madrid come into a draw situation where the winner of this leg takes all. Both teams go about their business differently, as Atletico has a strong defense and Manchester United will look to fire attempts at will. The Ajax match has more appeal for goal hunting, but there is value in this one. Joao Felix has played well in recent form. He is third on the team in scoring, contributing on 18% of their scoring. He also has played fewer full matches than Luis Suarez and Angel Correa, who also have scored more goals. Felix averages 2.78 shots per match and hits target at an accuracy clip of 40.6%. He needs a goal to pay off the price and is a GPP play for leverage given Atletico’s underdog odds. Antoine Griezmann would fill the floor role with set shares and penalties for upside. He averages 2.63 shots per match in his limited outings for the away side to complement 3.07 scoring chances created. The absence of Correa and Thomas Lemar looks to filter Griezmann an uptick in crossing volume as well.
The home side will have the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo coming off a hat trick. Ronaldo’s price is too low for his scoring and brace upside. He handles the penalties and averages 4.04 shots per match, which would see a significant uptick should Bruno Fernandes miss his second consecutive outing. The shot volume alone should help Ronaldo hit 1x value, making him a core play in all formats. Fernandes’s absence would also bump Paul Pogba up to an attacking role, where he contributes on shots and takes more than two attempts per match. He is a salary-relief stacking piece for Manchester United, which allows pieces from Ajax in the build.
Other Options: Jadon Sancho (DraftKings: $6,500, FanDuel $16), Anthony Elanga (DraftKings: $7,100, FanDuel $13), Marcos Llorente (DraftKings: $4,100, FanDuel $10). Rafa Silva (DraftKings: $5,700, FanDuel $15)
Alejandro Grimaldo (DraftKings: $4,800, FanDuel $12)
It is hard to imagine any of these matches ending with a clean sheet. Alex Telles will hold a key role on set pieces and is a cash consideration for the floor. The play that is interesting is Alejandro Grimaldo. He is not a scoring threat for the Portuguese club but has a floor despite the flow of the match. Offensively Grimaldo averages 6.39 crosses per match and a mix of shot volume and drawn fouls. Defensively he averages 2.26 interceptions/won tackles. Grimaldo offers some upside with 15% goal contribution, but the floor will do enough to pay off the price at 1.25-1.75x value.
Other Options: Alex Telles (DraftKings: $5,800, FanDuel $13), Renan Lodi (DraftKings: $4,400, FanDuel $10)
Jan Oblak (DraftKings: $4,400, FanDuel $9)
David De Gea (DraftKings: $5,200, FanDuel $11)
