UCL DFS Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Lineups | March 9
These are listed in order of what I believe are the top plays, including median projection, floor and upside.
UCL DFS Picks: Forwards/Midfielders
Sergio Oliveira (DraftKings $6,100, FanDuel $16)
Juventus comes into this slate as the big favorite. In addition to being the hosts, they also sport the third-best defense in Serie A, allowing 0.92 expected goals. The visiting Portuguese side is not fazed on the road, where they produce as many goals as they do at home (over 2 per match). In the first leg of this matchup, Porto took a 2-1 aggregate lead and Juventus will be looking to finish this off in regulation with multiple goals. The counterattack from Porto should pose a threat.
Sergio Oliveira will handle the set pieces and offers a floor greater than 1.5x the asking price. He averages 2.16 shots per match and 7.14 crosses. The penalty man also takes direct free kicks, which offers scoring upside. Oliveira adds to his value with 1.46 drawn fouls per match and 1.47 tackles won/interceptions. He is a core play in all formats.
Mehdi Taremi (DraftKings $6,500, FanDuel $15)
Cristiano Ronaldo (DraftKings $11,300, FanDuel $23)
The attacking duo for Porto consists of Mehdi Taremi and Moussa Marega. Both are GPP options for salary relief or as one-offs. Taremi averages 3.58 shots per match and 44% on-target accuracy. This average should see a decline against Juventus’ pressure but the counterpunch can yield a chance or two, and that is all Taremi needs to find the scoresheet. Marega comes at a higher ask and averages 2.33 shots per match with 47% on-target accuracy.
Juventus will garner ownership, as they should. The volume go-to is Cristiano Ronaldo. He builds his floor with 5.34 shots per match, leading Serie A. Ronaldo averages a goal per game and brings brace upside. Alvaro Morata comes in $3,000 cheaper on the ask and produces scoring upside but no volume-shooting floor. Morata contributes on 30% of Juventus’ scoring and brings 40.1% on-target accuracy on 2.36 shots per match. Juan Cuadrado is expected back and will handle the set-piece shares. He averages 4.79 crosses per match and 3.39 scoring chances created.
Joan Jordan (DraftKings $5,400, FanDuel $13)
Erling Haaland (DraftKings $10,900, FanDuel $22)
Sevilla will need goals in bunches to upset the host in this second leg. Joan Jordan offers salary relief and is an explosive winger for the Spanish Club. He handles corner-set shares and averages 2.47 scoring chances per match, with upside on the 1.11 shots per match. Jordan does not need a lot of output to hit value and adds to it with 2.42 won tackles/interceptions and 1.15 drawn fouls per match. The offense for Sevilla will be in full flight mode, led by Lucas Ocampos. Ocampos adds value through 3.23 drawn fouls per match and 2.07 shots. He is scoring-dependent at an asking price over $7,000, so he’s a GPP option.
Borussia Dortmund is led in scoring by Erling Haaland. He averages just over a goal per match and, like Ronaldo, can brace at will. Haaland averages 3.37 shots per match and hits target at a 55% accuracy clip. With a few injuries to the starting rotation, Marco Reus could slot in on the set-piece shares. He averages 2.02 shots per match and creates 3.41 scoring chances. If Raphael Guerreiro is active for the match, he is the preferred floor play over Rues.
Other Options: Federico Chiesa (DraftKings $9,200, FanDuel $16), Thorgan Hazard (DraftKings $8,500, FanDuel $15), Arthur (DraftKings $3,900, FanDuel $7), Mahmoud Dahoud (DraftKings $4,500, FanDuel $10)
UCL DFS Picks: Defender
Jesus Navas (DraftKings $5,100, FanDuel $13)
Jesus Navas will need to help the Sevilla offense get past the commanding Dortmund lead. He is active with open-play crosses at 4.45 per match. His asking price is low enough to hit 1.5x plus value with defensive metrics of 1.80 won-tackles/interceptions, along with his club-leading scoring chances created (3.06 per match). The higher-cost/higher-floor choices lie in the first two options below. If they are unavailable, Danilo and Alex Sandro become great pivot points with increased offensive up-push.
Other Options: Juan Cuadrado (DraftKings $6,900, FanDuel $15), Raphael Guerreiro (DraftKings $5,200, FanDuel $11), Thomas Meunier (DraftKings $4,800, FanDuel $12), Zaidu Sanusi (DraftKings $4,300, FanDuel $8)
UCL DFS Picks: Goalkeeper
Augustin Marchesin (DraftKings $3,800, FanDuel $8)
Marwin Hitz (DraftKings $5,200, FanDuel $11)
