Euro DFS Picks: Forwards/Midfielders
Cristiano Ronaldo (DraftKings $10,700, FanDuel $22)
Bruno Fernandes (DraftKings $8.700, FanDuel $19)
Tuesday’s match consists of a two-gamer with Portugal being the heavy favorites. They face a Hungary side that has placed well in recent matches but lacked the competition level they are about to see. Cristiano Ronaldo leads Portugal in shot volume and overall scoring. He builds a floor on the 9.14 shots per match, which see 43.4% accuracy. This volume for Ronaldo will fall significantly in the Euros, but don’t expect it to against a weaker Hungary side. He is a core play regardless of the ownership and high asking price.
The sets look to be split between Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva. Silva gives you for salary relief and a slight uptick in drawn fouls — 1.64 per match compared to 1.02 of Fernandes. The crossing volume is evenly split at an average sitting around four each. Fernandes is more inclined to go for goals, with 2.98 shots per match, while Silva is more of distributor. The savings points to Silva and Ronaldo combination, which allows spend up for key players in the second match. Also consider the stacking of all three, and lay off a bit on the tighter battle between France and Germany.
Serge Gnarby (DraftKings $7,300, FanDuel $18)
Germany sees a tough first match up against France. They have the benefit of playing in Munich. The goal-hunting option comes at a reasonable ask in Serge Gnarby. Gnarby won’t handle set pieces or PK sets, which seem split between Toni Kroos and Ilkay Gundogan. Gnarby does, however, create in open space and leads his nation in shot volume and goals. He averages 4.64 shots per match in recent form, with an on-target accuracy clip of 42.3%.
Going down the GPP options, Kroos does presents value with his 3.5 shots per match and 57.1% on-target accuracy. He does handle some sets, which gives him the lean over Gundogan when considering low to mid-$6,000 range. The choice of Thomas Muller, Timo Werner or Kai Havertz depends on who starts. Preference goes to Havertz, who is in much better current form and comes in the low $5,000s.
Antoine Griezmann (DraftKings $8,500, FanDuel $19)
France come into the Euro Championship as the odds-on favorite to win. The injury situation with Antoine Griezmann will play a key role in seeing that happen. To be honest, Germany seems to hold the upper hand in this outing. Nevertheless, the soft pricing makes it easy to fit in Griezmann, who is expected to play in this match. He handles all sets for the defending World Cup champions. He averages 3.63 shots per match and builds the floor on 6.5 crosses and created chances.
The asking price of Kylian Mbappe makes an interesting spot. He does garner ownership but not the level that Ronaldo and Griezmann will. His speed is hard to tame, which leads to two drawn fouls on average. He shoots 2.67 shots per match and can distribute scoring chances. In cash Ronaldo looks like the go-to. In GPP Mbappe will certainly be different.
Euro DFS Picks: Defender
Joshua Kimmich (DraftKings $5,800, FanDuel $14)
Joshua Kimmich is the core option at the defender spot. He handles the corners, and his open-play crossing volume makes his sub-$6,000 asking price easy enough to pay off. Another option with open-play volume is Raphael Guerreiro of Portugal.
Rui Patricio (DraftKings $5,700, FanDuel $13)
Manuel Neuer (DraftKings $4,700, FanDuel $9)
