EPL DFS Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Lineups | May 8

These are listed in order of what I believe are the top plays, including median projection, floor and upside.

EPL DFS Picks: Forwards/Midfielders

James Ward-Prowse (DraftKings $7,200, FanDuel $15)

Mohamed Salah (DraftKings $9,700, FanDuel $23)

The final match of this main slate sees Liverpool as a heavy favorite against Southampton. Southampton will be without Danny Ings, who contributes on 34% of their overall scoring and leads the club in goals. This makes James-Ward Prowse an interesting play. He matches Ings in scoring contribution and handles all sets for the visitors. His floor is built on 5.39 crosses and 2.05 shots per match. Liverpool is likely to dominate time of possession, and Ward-Prowse can hit value off an uptick in his active defensive metrics, which see 3.30 won tackles/interceptions. He will handle the PK, which has bailed out his mediocre DFS output three times before against teams dominating time of possession. Liverpool allows 1.15 expected goals at home and 1.17 actual goals, which makes Ward-Prowse floor and upside combo at this price a core play.

From the attacking side of Liverpool, there are numerous options at high asking prices. Mohamed Salah leads the charge against a visiting side that has a horrific 1.65 expected goals allowed and 2.23 actual. Southampton has allowed the most goals on the road and a Liverpool pairing of Salah, Mane and Firmino is the core go to in cash for goal hunting.

Liverpool have an outside chance to still reach Europa league competition next season and they cannot settle for a draw. Salah sits second in the EPL with twenty goals and 3.34 shots per match. He is the preferred one off of the attack. Sadio Mane’s high ask and low scoring output on the year makes an interesting pivot with offense supported by 3.06 shots per match (6th in EPL) and a club leading 3.76 scoring chances created per match. Mane also leads the club in drawn fouls at 2.55 per match.

Christian Benteke (DraftKings $5,600, FanDuel $18)

Eberechi Eze (DraftKings $6,600, FanDuel $12)

Sheffield United is one of the worst teams in the EPL. Their home defense allows 1.61 expected goals and 1.47 actual goals. Their offense doesn’t help much either, trailing only Fulham in total goals scored at home. Crystal Palace’ road offense is just as bad with 0.89 expected goals, but I like to think bad offense can still get there against bad defense.

Wilfried Zaha would be the popular choice of the visiting attack, followed by Andros Townsend, if he ever makes it back to the starting eleven. Assuming he does not, Eberechi Eze is the floor play. He averages 1.13 shots per match and creates 2.60 scoring chances. Eze looks to see a boost on his 2.99 crosses per match with Townsend out and can hit value with an uptick in his 2.44 drawn fouls. Zaha leads the club in drawn fouls at 3.13 per match, but without a goal his ask is harder to pay off with an inevitable booking likely for the hot headed talent up front.

Christian Benteke is not very active up front for the visitors. His asking price is appealing for salary relief in a plus match up. He actually leads the club with 3.15 shots per match and hits target at a 44.2% accuracy clip. Benteke’s size and strength has helped him finish aerial deliveries throughout the season in open play, it is worth rolling the dice on him finding the back of the net once again.

Kai Havertz (DraftKings $6,200, FanDuel $19)

Riyad Mahrez (DraftKings $9,200, FanDuel $21)

The mid game of this slate sees a preview of the Champions League final. The biggest question is, what teams do the prolific managers run out there? Chelsea have more to play for, in an attempt to lock the final Champions League spot for next year.

Kai Havertz has yet to see his asking price match the resurgence of his Bundesliga days under Thomas Tuchel. He sits third in goal contribution (17%) in this spread out club scoring. Havertz averages 1.76 shots per match which sees closer to 2.30 under Tuchel and leads Chelsea with a 53.6% on target accuracy clip. Both defenses are talented so goal hunting with an in-form star at a discount makes sense to me. Mason Mount is the floor play that seems to play every minute. He averages 2.44 shots per match and creates 5.02 scoring chances per match. at sub 9K on the ask, he makes a core play at the midfield.

The Champions will not be rolled over and have a bit of vengeance after Chelsea takes the FA Cup hopes. Kevin De Bruyne is the highest floor play, but the asking price makes his fade an interesting GPP choice. Riyad Mahrez sees a floor build off open play metrics of 2.71 shots and 4.82 crosses per match. His form is one of the highest on the club and the goals are coming across all competitions.

Other Options: Wilfried Zaha (DraftKings $7,800, FanDuel $17), Christian Pulisic (DraftKings $7,100, FanDuel $16), Stuart Armstrong (DraftKings $5,100, FanDuel $14), Luka Milivojevic (DraftKings $4,100, FanDuel $13).

EPL DFS Picks: Defender

Trent Alexander-Arnold (DraftKings $7,000, FanDuel $15)

Reece James (DraftKings $5,500, FanDuel $14)

Trent Alexander-Arnold comes with a high asking price. He is still a core play in all formats with his set piece control, open play activity and the plus match up. He averages 8.01 crosses per match and creates 3.28 scoring chances. on the defense he sees 2.96 won tackles/interceptions. His 1.76 shots per match is not appealing but his floor in this match up surpasses the upside of all but a handful of options at any position.

Reece James averages 4.59 crosses per match and 2.37 shots/assisted shots. He comes in at a discount given the tough match up. He is a leverage play as the clearer choice would be a punt down next to Alexander Arnold, or a pairing with Andrew Robertson.

Other Options: Patrick Van Aanholt (DraftKings $4,200, FanDuel $8), Joel Ward (DraftKings $3,600, FanDuel $7), George Baldock (DraftKings $3,500, FanDuel $8).

Top Goalkeepers

Vicente Guaita (DraftKings $4,900, FanDuel $11)

Edouard Mendy (DraftKings $4,400, FanDuel $8)
