Welcome to MLS DFS for July 19 (7/19/20). Here you’ll find our top picks, all things considered. The players who have price-considered floor/ceiling on DraftKings are especially highlighted. Keep in mind that teams are now allowed five substitutions instead of three due to lack of training during the hiatus.

Seattle Sounders (-195) vs. Vancouver Whitecaps (+450), O/U 3
The MLS DFS Breakdown
This MLS showdown features the Seattle Sounders as a huge favorite over the Vancouver Whitecaps. Vancouver is currently allowing over three goals a game and the offense has struggled with the exception of a three goal outing against a likewise terrible defense in San Jose. Seattle is a more diciplined team and the question comes to how much can the put up. I do not think the offense is explosive enough to put up a lot of goals and I like Seattle to win this game 2-0.
These picks are listed in order of what I believe are the top plays, including median projection, floor and upside.
Note: For players not used in the Captain or MVP spot, they are priority in Flex.

Raul Rudiaz (DraftKings $16,200)
Nicolas Loderio (DraftKings $17,100)
Raul Rudiaz sits fourth in the MLS in shot volume and leads the Sounders, while taking PK. His shooting accuracy is questionable at best, but the relentless to keep firing away makes him viable against a Vancouver defense that is allowing over three goals a game. Nicolas Loderio is the set piece man for Seattle with Mior sidelined. Loderio takes attempt at new, but mainly contributes on the assisted shots and drawn fouls. His value in drawn fouls is combined with crosses now that he is in line for the set pieces. Seattle should be able to put up a number of goals in this one and Rudiaz brings brace upside, while Loderio provides a safer floor and goal involvement upside. I prefer to take the savings and go goal hunting with Rudiaz.
Raul Rudiaz 2019-2020 stats: 1 goal, 15 shots.
Nicolas Loderio 2019-2020 stats: 3 assisted shots, 11 crosses, 6 fouls drawn.
Christian Roldan (DraftKings $14,100)
Christian Roldan provides salary relief at the captain spot while still be active in the Seattle offense. He is not shy to shoot and can mix up the crosses from open play and assisted shots. I prefer him over Jordan Morris mainly on the minutes factor. Morris will garner ownership on his scoring resume, but in two games he has looked like he is not ready for full game run, whereas Roldan has looked more fluent. The concern with Roldan is he can get lost in the offense and if he does not get involved in a goal, like with all the Seattle attackers, the price tag is too high and your lineup will sink.
Christian Roldan 2019-2020 stats: 7 shots, 5 assisted shots, 6 crosses.
Ali Adnan (DraftKings $8,200)
Hwang In-Beom (DraftKings $7,600)
Ali Adnan sits in the top 40 in the MLS in crossing volume despite playing a game fewer than a few guys above him. Hwang In-Beom sits atop the team leaders alongside Adnan in crossing volume and controls the set piece shares. Both can contribute on assisted shots and provide solid floors even with no goal involvement. I prefer In-Beom because I expect the possession to be controlled by Seattle and his set piece shares at least can guarantee some volume. Adnan can add to his floor with interceptions and won tackles which should yield oppurtunity against the Seattle attack.
Ali Adnan 2019-2020 stats: 12 crosses, 8 drawn fouls
Hwang In-Beom 2019-2020 stats: 7 assisted shots, 11 crosses.
Stefan Frie (DraftKings $8,800)
Stefan Frie comes at a high cost. A clean sheet and a win alone will not hit value on the ask. His ownership should be high and if Vancouver find the back of the net he cannot bail out the wasted salary. Now the case I can make for him is if Seattle put up only one or two goal. Their offense has not looked impressive and even against a poor defense you still have to find the back of the net. If the are concentrated on a high-owned Rudiaz Loderio combo, the only leverage you will have is a Frie bonus at the end of the game.
Other Options: Christian Dajome (DraftKings $6,800), David Milikovic (DraftKings $5,800), Kelvin Leerdam (DraftKings $7,400). Xavier Arreaga (DraftKings $4,000)
