The UCL DFS Breakdown
These are listed in order of what I believe are the top plays, including median projection, floor and upside.
Forward/Midfield Picks
Jadon Sancho (DraftKings $9,300 FanDuel $18)
Erling Haaland (DraftKings $10,200 FanDuel $19)
Let’s go straight past the chalkier good plays in Lionel Messi and Bruno Fernandez. They provide great floors and upside and their price tags are warranted. I really like the pair of Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho because they are priced to be overlooked if trying to play the high tier. The duo has Dortmund sitting with the third-highest expected goals in the Bundesliga at 2.06 per game. They take on a Zenit squad that is allowing 0.75 goals per game in the Russian Premier League but has not been stonewall in the Champions League. dating back to last season, Zenit has allowed two or more goals in four of his last five Champions League matches.
Haaland is averaging 3.2 shots per game with on-target accuracy of 50% and registered on average a goal a game. He has been a scoring machine since arriving to the club a season ago and brings brace upside. Sancho handles set pieces for Dortmund. He has yet to find the back of the net this season but has helpers. He is averaging two shots and 4.5 chances created per game. If Giovanni Reyna gets the start, he is a viable pay as well and could take some corner shares away from Sancho.
Christopher Nkunku (DraftKings $6,900 FanDuel $16)
Manchester United’s defense has been improving in their recent form, with just one goal or fewer allowed in two out of three games. They face the second-highest scoring offense in the Bundesliga in this Champions League clash. Christopher Nkunku has lost some set piece shares to Angelino, but he is a creator that can contribute in other ways. He is averaging two shots, five crosses and 5.2 chances created per game. He comes in at a low enough price tag for his production with added value from won tackles and fouls drawn.
Mykola Shaparenko (DraftKings $4,900 FanDuel $14)
Vladyslav Supriaha (DraftKings $6.300 FanDuel $18)
Dynamo Kyiv get their shot against the Champions League’s punching back in Ferencvarosi. Ferencvarosi continues to play well in the Hungarian League. The competition gap is evident when they allowed three plus goals in two of three recent Champions League matches. Now, Dynamo Kyiv is no Barcelona. I do not expect them to post four goals, but two or three is enough for the price tags. I like the whole front line attack but not enough to stack them all in one lineup. Mykola Shaparenko can provide open-play crosses, is not shy too shoot and builds a floor off drawn fouls. He provides salary relief to pay up as a one-off.
Vladyslav Supriaha comes in a prime spot to goal hunt. He has continued scoring for the club going back to a season ago, with an average goal in 53% of his starts. He needs a goal even at his sub-$7,000 price tag, but the PK man could not ask for a more favorable matchup.
Other Options:Â Lionel Messi (DraftKings $11,100, FanDuel $23), Bruno Fernandez (DraftKings $10,400, FanDuel $19), Suso (DraftKings $6,200, FanDuel $14), Carlos de Pena (DraftKings $7,000, FanDuel $11), Viktor Tsyhankov (DraftKings $7,400, FanDuel $18), Ruud Vormer (DraftKings $7,600, FanDuel $14), Ansu Fati (DraftKings $7,500, FanDuel $18).
Defender Picks
Angelino (DraftKings $5,900 FanDuel $15)
Tomasz Kedziora (DraftKings $3,900 FanDuel $9)
Angelino continues to impress for RB Leipzig. The wingback continues to provide offense, scoring multiple goals in both Bundesliga and Champions League action. One thing to be cautious of, brace games are not often found, and Manchester United will be prepared for the Spaniard’s assault. His floor comes from seven crosses, two tackles won/interceptions and 4.4 chances created per game. Angelino is an accurate shooter and has upside in finding the back of the net.
Tomasz Kedziora provides the crossing volume for his club and like the rest of Dynamo Kyiv have a plus matchup at below average price tags. Kedziora needs only a few crosses, interceptions and assisted shots to pay off the price tag.
Other Options:Â Juan Cuadrado (DraftKings $6,200, FanDuel $14), Jesus Navas (DraftKings $5,500, FanDuel $14), Marcos Acuna (DraftKings $4,500, FanDuel $15), Eldar Civic (DraftKings $2,800, FanDuel $12), Mohamed Fares (DraftKings $4,600, FanDuel $7).
Goalkeeper Picks
Marwin Hitz (DraftKings $5,900 FanDuel $14)
Peter Gulacsi (DraftKings $4,400 FanDuel $9)
Simon Mignolet (DraftKings $5,300 FanDuel $8)
