Tennis DFS Picks DraftKings FanDUel US Open U.S. Karolina Pliskova today august 31 2021

It’s the third day of this week’s tennis tournaments, and with that comes another massive slate. The third slate of this tennis DFS week has 23 matches with ATP and WTA players in action. We’ve got thoughts on Karolina Pliskova and Taylor Fritz, so let’s dive in.

Karolina Pliskova (DraftKings $9,700; FanDuel N/A)

Karolina Pliskova has been one of the most dominant players on the WTA tour in 2019 with a 50-13 record. Her hard court record is currently sitting at 33-8, while capturing two titles on the year. Pliskova has lost just one set in her last five matches, and I don’t think anyone can stop her. She’s firing down aces at a 14% rate over the last two weeks, and with a serve like that on the WTA tour, she’ll be tough to beat.

Pliskova has a meeting with Dayana Yastremska, the WTA world number 27 from Ukraine. Yastremska has been good on the hard surfaces this year with a 20-10 record. She captured a title in Hua Hin in January, but she hasn’t made it beyond the round of 16 since that tournament. She dropped five service games in her last match against Christina McHale while winning 50% of service points. Dayana is 0-1 against top-10 players this year on hard courts, and I expect her to get that second loss today.

Taylor Fritz (DraftKings $9,000; FanDuel N/A)

Taylor Fritz is coming off of an impressive outing at the Laver Cup, taking down Dominic Thiem in a crucial matchup. Hopefully it’ll give him a bit of momentum because he had lost five straight hard court matches prior to that tournament. Fritz has the ability to compete with some of the games top players, which we saw in July in his back to back finals appearances. The American is looking to get back into the top 25, and today’s match is a good starting point.

Fritz will go up against Alexander Bublik, the ATP world number 71. Bublik is one of the most erratic players on the tour, and is beyond frustrating to watch at times. He has a Nick Kyrgios style of service game where he loves to go huge on both first and second serves. However, it results in a ton of double faults and careless errors. He’s just 3-5 on hard courts since Wimbledon, while double faulting at an 11% rate. Bublik is yet to defeat a player ranked inside the top 85 in that time span, and I don’t see that happening against Fritz.

Miomir Kecmanovic (DraftKings $7,900; FanDuel N/A)

Miomir Kecmanovic has broken through the ATP rankings over the last 12 months, jumping 120 spots to his current ranking of 48. He is 14-9 in ATP tour level matches on hard courts while taking down nine top-100 players. His most impressive run was in Cincinnati, where he took out both Felix Auger Aliassime and Alexander Zverev back-to-back. Miomir has a solid game to be able to compete against some of the best in tennis and I hope to see that again today. He won his first match this week against Casper Ruud in dominant fashion.

Kecmanovic is going up against Albert Ramos Vinolas, the ATP world number 46 from Spain. Albert is one of the top clay court players in tennis, but his game doesn’t fit well for the hard courts. He is 5-7 on hard surfaces in 2019 while failing to make it past the round of 32 in all tournaments. Ramos is winning just 54% of service points on the hard courts while holding serve 75% of the time, which is not good enough to compete against the best players. I think Kecmanovic will get this match done in straight sets.

Possible upset/value plays: Sofia Kenin (DraftKings $5,800; FanDuel N/A)

Sofia Kenin has been nothing short of dominant on the hard courts in 2019 with a 35-12 record. She’s captured two titles this year, including one just last week in Guangzhou. Kenin has been almost unstoppable since early August, with a 19-4 record while only losing to players currently ranked inside the top 15. Sofia is on a roll to say the least, and I think she just might add another trophy to the collection.

Kenin is going up against the WTA world number one, Ashleigh Barty. Barty captured her first grand slam title this year at the French Open, and she hasn’t let her foot off the gas since then. She is 7-3 on the hard courts since Wimbledon, but she had to fight in all 10 matches. Her first match this week against Caroline Garcia wasn’t very convincing, as Barty faced 10 break points while winning just 57% of service points. One of Barty’s three losses was against Kenin in early August, and I expect the same result today. Kenin is too good at the moment and this price is simply too cheap.
