The first round went well in terms of picks with an obvious advantage in form and surface familiarity. With the second round upon us in both events in Canada, the matches should ramp up the competition level and watchability. That sounds great and all but can make for some tough decisions in tennis betting. It was pretty evident that the courts are playing fast, judging by many of the winners from Monday and Tuesday alike. That said, we’ll likely need to do some digging in other markets to find better, more valuable tennis odds with these closer matches as the skill level goes up. Below I’ve listed my favorite tennis betting picks and parlays for Wednesday, Aug. 11.
Tennis Odds & Betting Picks: National Bank Open Second Round
John Millman (-155, SugarHouse)
Opponent: Gael Monfils
Venue: ATP Tour, Toronto
John Millman has looked strong since the tour has returned to hard courts, winning four of his six matches after a rough start. The Australian doesn’t excel on any specific court, but hard courts are for sure his favorite, with a win percentage north of 60%. His game doesn’t have any glaring weakness but doesn’t carry any specific strength either. The bigger piece to this puzzle lies across the net with Gael Monfils. Once a top-10 player on the ATP, Monfils has completely fallen off the tennis map. His 3-10 record (W-L) in 2021 is not misleading in any manner. Much of his struggles were attributed to his off-court drama, but his fitness and poor service numbers are the real issues.
I also like the over at 22.5 in this one. With Monfils’ pure talent advantage, he could take the first set and completely fade after with the hot conditions. This also means that Millman would make for a very nice live bet after Set 1 if he somehow falls. Keep an eye on the weather with these tennis picks.
Amanda Anisimova vs. Oceane Dodin OVER 20.5 Games (SugarHouse)
Venue: WTA Tour, Montreal
Most matches in the WTA are friendly over bets due to their unpredictability. This duel between Amanda Anisimova and Oceane Dodin says much of the same. Anisimova is a future star on the WTA without question but has struggled to find consistency in her game along with errors – a 4.8% double fault rate. Dodin, on the opposing side, carries similar issues (12.2% DF) but plays a much more defensive game which should play well against the speed game Anisimova relies on. What pushed me to the Over instead of the Moneyline here was the form of both women. Each comes in winning three straight here in Montreal and carrying winning records on hard courts this season.
This match looks to be far closer than the tennis betting markets are putting out for my taste. If forced to pick a winner of this match, I’d lean on the pedigree of Anisimova to outperform the patience of Dodin.
Viktoria Azarenka (-250), Aryna Sabalenka (-480), Ludmilla Samsonova (+106)
