There may be nothing less predictive than the sport of tennis at the moment. After another crazy day of upsets and Nikoloz Basilashvili winning another title, there is likely to be more of the same. DraftKings has done a solid and bumped the top prize in their main GPP to $10,000 with 14 matches, and there is even a slate on FanDuel with 13 matches. Let’s get into some of the top DraftKings and FanDuel tennis DFS picks for Monday, May 3.
As always, I’ll be using Awesemo’s industry-leading projections to help me navigate the slate on both sites with odds breakdowns as well as statistical projections.
DraftKings & FanDuel Fantasy Tennis DFS Picks | May 3
Ashleigh Barty ($7,800 DraftKings/$16 FanDuel)
Opponent: Iga Swiatek
This pick will pain some in Awesemo’s premium Slack channel, but at this price and tennis DFS projection, Ashleigh Barty cannot be passed up. The women’s No. 1 player in the world has looked none the worse after taking most of 2020 off, winning three titles already this year, including one in Stuttgart just a week ago. As the third-highest-projected overall player on the slate, she is the bar for value amongst any favorite at a fantastic price on both sites. In terms of her actual play, she has been great on clay, going 8-1 this year and hitting double-digit ace percentages multiple times.
Iga Swiatek showed exactly what she can do last year at the French Open, but Barty is still a sizeable favorite according to Elo Ratings, where she has a 65% probability of winning. At this price, there is so little to lose and so much to gain.
Dominik Koepfer ($8,200 DraftKings/$17 FanDuel)
Opponent: Reilly Opelka
There is plenty to like here for Dominik Koepfer as he takes on skyscraper Reilly Opelka on his weakest surface. As most know, many Americans prefer hardcourts because it is the natural surface in the States, and Opelka is no different, with just two wins in 12 attempts in ATP events. Koepfer should use his superior mobility to force Opelka to scramble and exert energy he normally wouldn’t. On FanDuel, where winning and tallying break points are key in tennis DFS, this match should provide plenty of scoring opportunities for Koepfer.
As a nice bit of confidence, Koepfer won their last meeting, which was on hardcourt in the U.S. Open in 2019. With his floor and upside, Koepfer makes for a great play in all formats.
Ownership plays: Petra Kvitova, Ons Jabeur, Miomir Kecmanovic
