Grass season carries on in both the WTA and ATP tours and DraftKings has put together a 20-match slate with plenty of tennis DFS options to scour over. We’re now into the third full week of playing on grass so things look bit more sustainable and maybe even predictable. To help us with that predictability I’ll use Awesemo’s industry-leading projections along with surface history data, matchup metrics, and recent form. Let’s get into some picks for Monday, June 21st.
DraftKings Tennis DFS Picks for 2021 | June 21
Angelique Kerber ($10,700)
Opponent: Ekaterina Yashina
It’s never exciting grabbing the most expensive player on the board but on a big slate with plenty of options and upsets likely to happen it may just be necessary. Angelique Kerber did look at times a bit last year like she was starting to lose her game but I think we can all understand why most athletes weren’t in top form in 2020. For her career the German Kerber has enjoyed grass more than any other surface in terms of Winning Percentage going 73-29 including a Wimbledon title in 2018. Her opponent is Ekaterina Yashina whom we know very little about as the 476th ranked player in the WTA with just one career win on the grass surface.
There are only two players on the entire slate with a better ELO on grass and nobody with a better chance at sweeping their opponent. With her price and last year’s inconsistent play I think we can expect a monster tennis DFS score at hopefully lower ownership.Want more Fantasy Football picks, strategy, and draft advice? Casper Ruud ($8,700)
Opponent: Gilles Simon
Lurking in the mid-tier is one of the best young talents on the ATP in Casper Ruud going up against Gilles Simon. The 22-year-old is getting his first experience on grass since 2019 so the odds and pricing are somewhat justified but he’s absolutely on another level in terms of overall game. His Elo win probability is just over 53% on grass but if we expand to all surfaces he jumps to a near 80% probable winner with an edge across the board.
Simon has been in absolute tailspin in 2021 going 2-12 W-L (0-2 on Grass) holding his own serve at a pathetic 60% rate. Ruud’s lack of experience on the surface will be combatted with his superior game and 86% hold of service this year. At this price he would be my pick for best value of any favorite on the slate.
