Serve & Volley: FanDuel Tennis DFS Picks for Wimbledon | Thursday, 7/1

Josh Anderson

Awesemo's expert Tennis DFS picks today & projections for 2021 Atlanta Open DraftKings lineups with Sam Querrey | 7/26/21

We finally had a full day of tennis with the London weather cooperating so we officially can say we’ve moved on past the first round for everyone. Within the craziness we’ve had court issues, big time upsets, and impressive performances. We’ll go searching for the latter with 21-matches to parse through for tennis DFS purposes. Hopefully the rest of the week rolls a little smoother in all facets. Let’s makes some picks for Thursday, July 1st.

Top Wimbledon FanDuel Tennis DFS Picks Today

To help make one of the many difficult decisions, I will be using Awesemo’s industry-leading tennis DFS projections, which also include regressed match data and outcome probabilities.

Marin Cilic ($21)

Opponent: Benjamin Bonzi

Odds: -500 (SugarHouse)

Marin Cilic is one of the largest favorite’s on this tennis DFS slate and with his big edge in experience it adds up. The Croatian has played 117 matches (87-30 W-L Overall) on grass in comparison to the 12 (10-2 W-L) for his counterpart Benjamin Bonzi. Both players do come in with very strong form but Cilic has done so versus multiple accomplished players while Bonzi’s best win would be Damir Dzumhur (128th).

Cilic is known as a “big game player” with his strong overall game. His 69% Win Percentage, recent form, and experience all justify the price tag in all formats. With his Ace upside (four straight in double digits), sweep probability (45%), and 81% Elo probability he makes for a top-tier play on this slate.

Sam Querrey ($20)

Opponent: James Duckworth

Odds: -315 (SugarHouse)

The Americans have fared well so far at Wimbledon and Sam Querrey is just another. The vet Querrey has strung together a somewhat surprisingly nice run of matches now on grass with 8 wins in 11 tries. He’s now the beneficiary of facing a lesser opponent in James Duckworth in the second round after defeating Pablo Carreno-Busta. As any regular tennis DFS player knows Querrey often provides us a great floor with his service game. So far this season on grass he’s posted double digit Ace numbers with 20+ on four occasions.

The recent list of casualties (which includes Duckworth in Germany) and surface history confirm the odds and big time Elo advantage (82%) for the American. Duckworth plays a very emotional game and Querrey’s ability to control the match should work to his advantage.

Other Tennis DFS Picks:

Marketa Vondrousova, Aleksandra Sasnovich

"gottagetthiswiiin" - Born and raised in Wisconsin with a degree in Marketing. DFS has been a big part of my life since 2016 and has changed my career path and quality of life so much I can't not love it. I enjoy all sports and I'm definitely not a diehard Packers fan, or any team for that matter besides maybe the Wild. Love to travel with the wife and kid - Germany if I'm picking a favorite place. Hope to help people make more thoughtful, and informed, DFS decisions.
