Awesemo presents Tennis DFS picks for the day 1 of the 2020 U.S. Open, including Jason Jung and Madison Brengle for DraftKings daily fantasy.

We’re back! After what seemed like an eternity, tennis finally returned last week with the Western & Southern Open taking place in New York for the first time ever. With that warm-up in the books, the players are jumping right into a major with the U.S. Open starting tomorrow in Flushing Meadows. DraftKings has a huge Day 1 slate with a massive $100,000 GPP paying $25,000 to first. Here are my top tennis DFS picks on DraftKings

US Open Tennis DFS Picks: DraftKings Favorites

Jason Jung ($9,400) | Opponent: Federico Coria | Odds to win: -325

I consider Jung one of the safest players on this slate for many reasons, one being he faces an opponent that sports a 5-11 record on hard surfaces since 2017. Coria just isn’t good on this surface, and his only path to victory is if for some reason Jung pulls a hamstring and has to withdraw. Jung has beaten some legit opponents such as Reilly Opelka and Cameron Norrie, while Coria really hasn’t faced anyone of note. I’m expecting a sweep and wouldn’t be surprised if some of the sets were clean sets.

Currently Jung has an ace percentage of 5.94%, and he’s averaging about one double fault per game. He also has an impressive 70% first-serve points won compared to 61% for Coria. Coria is also prone to error, having 10 double faults in just five matches. Pick Jung with confidence.

Madison Brengle ($7,300) | Opponent: Lesia Tsurenko | Odds to win: +110

This is my first dog pick of the night. Brengle currently has a 7-6 record on hard surfaces for 2020 compared to Tsurenko who has an 8-5 record on the hard surface. Brengle is better than this record implies. Her last four losses on hard surfaces, with the exception of the loss to CiCi Bellis, all went to a third set and really could have gone either way. I feel she should be able to do enough to get the edge on Tsurenko and move her head-to-head record against Tsurenko to 3-0.

Brengle currently has a first serve win percentage of 58.4% and a service games won percentage of 51.9%. She is averaging 0.5 aces per game so far in 2020. A bit concerning is her 15 double faults in just two matches, but I expect her to start getting into form. She’s one of my favorite tennis DFS picks on DraftKings for day one of the US Open

Daria Kasatkina ($6,200) | Opponent: Marta Kostyuk | Odds to win: +120

This is the second dog pick of the day, and it will be a close one. Kostyuk, who is currently ranked No. 137 will play against Kasatkina, the No. 70 player, in what should be a very close match. Looking at Kostyuk’s record, it’s clear she’s very good on hard surfaces, sporting a 13-7 record the last two years compared to Kasatkina, who sports a 15-21 record. But another thing that stands out is the large discrepancy in competition. In Kostyuk’s last 10, she has only beated one opponent that is/was ranked top 100 at one point, compared to Kasatkina, who has almost exclusively faced top-100 opponents.

Kasatkina currently has a first serve won percentage of 67.6% in 2020, compared to Kostyuk’s 57.5%. Kostyuk sports a meager 28% return games won rate compared to Kasatkina’s 38%. I definitely believe Kasatkina has a real chance of winning this one against the 18-year-old.

US Open Tennis DFS Picks: DraftKings Fades

Coco Gauff ($8,700) | Opponent: Anastasija Sevastova | Odds to win: -220

I expect Gauff to win, but this match will not be optimal. Her matches tend to be drawn out and filled with double faults. She has broken the 70-point mark once in her last seven wins, and in her last three wins she has posted scores of 69, 51 and 56. Definitely look into pivoting elsewhere and avoid this match. In just 11 matches Gauff already has 70 double faults compared to Sevastova’s 14 in seven matches. I expect this match to be a mess and Gauff should squeeze out the victory.
