The Internazionali BNL d’Italia has been filled with tons of upsets so far, and we should expect more as we go into Wednesday’s slate. When looking at tennis stats, I tend to focus more on the below:

  • First-serve percentage
  • Service games won
  • Break points saved
  • Second-serve return points won
  • Break points converted

These greatly help in determining who can power through tough games or even dominate to win in straight sets. Let’s get right to the picks for Sept. 16 tennis DFS.

Tennis DFS Picks: DraftKings

Elena Rybakina ($8,9 00)

Opponent: Marie Bouzkova

Odds to win: -245

Elena Rybakina is off to a hot start this year on clay, beating Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-0, 6-4. Rybakina had a monster first serve won percentage of close to 90% in her most recent match. Rybakina currently has a 67.57% win percentage on clay compared to Marie Bouzkova’s 58.43%. Bouzkova is 8-9 on this surface since 2018 and hasn’t beaten anyone on Rybakina’s level. I expect Rybakina to win in straight sets.

Amanda Anisimova ($7,000)

Opponent: Dayana Yastremska

Odds to win: +114

Amanda Anisimova is the better clay player, posting a record of 15-5 since 2019 compared to Dayana Yastremska’s 8-5. Anisimova is winning almost 76% of her matches on clay compared to Yastremska’s 67.8%. Yastremska is extremely mistake prone, posting double faults and unforced errors at a high rate. Anisimova in recent form has the better second serve won percentage and break points won percentage. I expect Anisimova to win in three sets.

Victoria Azarenka ($8,200)

Opponent: Venus Williams

Odds to win: -186

Victoria Azarenka has been having an amazing run this year, making it all the way to the finals in the U.S. Open. Azarenka has also been the better clay player, posting a record of 8-9 since 2018 compared to Venus Williams’ 2-5 if you remove the walkover win over her sister. Williams on clay in her recent form has a first serve percentage of barely 50%, compared to Azarenka, who even in a loss averages greater than 55%. Williams did recently beat Azarenka on hard court earlier this year, and it’s actually her only win in 2020. I expect Azarenka in her current form to beat Williams in straight sets.

Karolina Pliskova ($9,300)

Opponent: Barbora Strycova

Odds to win: -300

Karolina Pliskova is 10-5 on clay since 2019, compared to Barbora Strycova, who is 9-8. These two actually met earlier this year with Pliskova beating Strycova in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Pliskova also has been averaging higher first serve won percentage and second serve won percentage as well as winning 83% of her service games compared to Strycova’s 58.8%. This match should be a repeat of their match earlier in the year with Pliskova winning in straight sets.

Fade: Borna Coric ($8,700)

Opponent: Stefano Travaglia

Odds to win: -230

This will be the first meeting for Borna Coric and Stefano Travaglia. Travaglia has been amazing on the clay surface with a 68% win rate compared to Coric’s 62%. In Coric’s first match of the tournament, he won 71% of his first serve points and 45% of second serve won points, which was overshadowed by Travaglia’s 90% and 51%. This is a match that can definitely go three sets and may even end in an upset.
