Serve & Volley: DraftKings Tennis DFS Picks for Charleston, Italy, Colombia, & Spain | 4/9

Josh Anderson

Tennis DFS Picks and projections for DraftKings lineups for Charleston, Italy, Bogota, and Spain | 4/9

Per usual, it has been a fun week of tennis with upsets abound. There have been injuries and retirements that cost some nice scores along the way, but it is time to move on to today’s tennis DFS slate that features only nine matches. DraftKings once again decided to make the main tournament a $5,000 top prize, and the smaller field can lead to more under-owned plays, as has been seen the last few days. Let’s get to the tennis DFS picks.

DraftKings Tennis DFS Picks | April 9

Casper Ruud ($9,300)

Opponent: Carlos Alcaraz Garfia

Odds: -196

This slate is oddly priced, with no player being priced above $9,400. Casper Ruud is falling $100 underneath that, and he is looking to turn in another great year on clay. Last year Ruud took a big step forward in the ATP, reaching multiple finals and earning the highest ranking of his career during that time (currently 26th). In his first match on clay in 2021, he looked solid in sweeping Gianluca Mager, winning 86% of his first serves and posting a great dominance rating of 1.88. His opponent is Carlos Alcaraz Garfia who is just 17 years old. Alcaraz won multiple challengers and defeated a handful of top-100 players along the way. That said, none of them are at the level of Ruud, and when facing top 50 opponents, Alcaraz’s inexperience has not gotten it done.

Veronika Kudermetova ($7,800)

Opponent: Sloane Stephens

Odds: -149

The slight misprice is only part of the package here with Veronika Kudermetova going up against Sloane Stephens. Stephens is a name in American tennis and a former winner here, which all but confirms she will be the more popular pick of the two. The matchup in itself is very even, with both players sharing very similar career rates and dominance ratings on clay. Kudermetova has run through her first three opponents here in Charleston, posting huge tennis DFS scores on both slates she has been a part of.

This should be a very close match unless Kudermetova keeps rolling as she has. Regardless, the leverage she’ll carry in comparison to Stephens as a favorite makes her the better play.

Others: Nikoloz Basilashvili, Harmony Tan, Sara Errani

"gottagetthiswiiin" - Born and raised in Wisconsin with a degree in Marketing. DFS has been a big part of my life since 2016 and has changed my career path and quality of life so much I can't not love it. I enjoy all sports and I'm definitely not a diehard Packers fan, or any team for that matter besides maybe the Wild. Love to travel with the wife and kid - Germany if I'm picking a favorite place. Hope to help people make more thoughtful, and informed, DFS decisions.
