We’re back on track after a full day of matches and we’re on to the 2nd half of the third round on the men’s and women’s sides. The FanDuel main tournament has shrunk down to $1000 up top so our picks are going to need to be on point if we want to take it down. Half of the player pool remaining is seeded players so there are plenty of big names from Daniil Medvedev to Marin Cilic. Let’s get into some tennis DFS picks on FanDuel for Day 6 of the U.S. Open.

So before I get into the stats we like to look at for hard court matches (aces, double faults and return percentage for myself), I’ll take a quick look for any discrepancies in the odds versus the pricing and where the public’s money is going versus popularity to hopefully help us create some leverage against the field with good DFS plays.
Tennis DFS Picks: U.S. Open Day 6
Odds vs. Ownership Pick
Donna Vekic ($19) | Opponent: Tsvetana Pironkova | Odds: -175 to -210
So this play is mostly about low ownership and leverage on the field. Donna Vekic is not a fun roster with her propensity for Double Faults (6.8%) but she is capable of also running through opponents like she did Patricia Tig in the last round with a 173-whopper. Pironkova comes into the match as a popular pick to upset because of recent run of upset wins versus Ludmilla Samsonova and Garbine Muguruza.
Thus far the leverage picks have worked out well with plays like Jennifer Brady and Viktoria Azarenka on recent slates and hopefully we get the same result here.
Serena Williams ($19) | Opponent: Sloane Stephens | Sweep Odds: -118
Serena comes into this round’s match with two wins – both in straight sets. She’s looked very sharp while doing it with 19 aces and 10 break points won. It’s hard not to like arguably the greatest women’s tennis player ever but when she’s priced this low and get’s a favorable matchup in Sloane Stephens there’s little reason to shy away.
With a 5-1 career head-to-head record against Stephens we can only expect her to be popular but everything adds up to her being a great play.
Andrey Rublev ($24) | Opponent: Salvatore Caruso| Sweep Odds: -185
Similar to yesterday’s scenario with Pablo Carreno-Busta we get a very good all-around player in Andrey Rublev on hard courts that can maximize the upside of a player with a tour average 7.25 Aces/match.
As far his opponent, Salvatore Caruso, is much more accustomed to grinding out wins on clay and with an average score of 123.9 fantasy points it shows he’s still not a force to reckoned with even at this stage. I have zero worries about Rublev winning the match we just need to hope it’s in straight sets at that price.
Tennis DFS: Fade Pick
Roberto Bautista-Agut | Opponent: Vasek Pospisil
I love the way the 8-seed plays with great footwork and defense but going up against Vasek Pospisil can be limiting for his DFS opponents because of his solid service game and increased odds of tiebreaks – 9.48 Aces/match.
In terms of talent I still think RBA is much better and should be able to win but I don’t expect to see him put up a DFS-winning lineup – 135 FPs/match through first two matches.
Tennis DFS: Upset Pick
Marin Cilic ($9) | Opponent: Dominic Thiem ($22)
Dominic Thiem is not someone I like picking against but I am going to get one right here soon enough and I believe Marin Cilic can make the match ugly enough to win it. The main reason I like the pick of Cilic on this slate (and all when he’s $9) is the floor he brings with his Aces (43 in 2 matches thus far) and the roster constriction of FanDuel’s pricing on slates this size where you must roster a dog. Dropping down here gives you a ton of flexibility and allows you to get a nice mix of the big boys/girls up top.
Other picks I like for ownership: Elise Mertens ($24), Viktoria Azarenka ($23), Sofia Kenin ($18)
