The second round has arrived in Miami with a whole lot of tennis dfs action with 21 matches on DraftKings Tennis slate. Once again we have nice contests to choose from with two gpp’s with $10,000 up top. Yesterday was unpredictable as expected with multiple upsets across the board but with some ATP matches also on the slate we may get a bit more stability. It should be another wild one so let’s make some tennis picks for lineups for Thursday’s slate.
DraftKings Fantasy Tennis DFS Picks Today
Low-Owned Tennis Pick Today: Belinda Bencic ($8,000)
Opponent: Marta Kostyuk
The former World No. 4 Belinda Bencic squares off against Marta Kostyuk in what could be a back-and-forth match as Kostyuk continues to find consistency in her career and the same can be said for Bencic who has lost three straight coming in. These two have not met yet in their careers so odds and projections are much based off their surface history where Bencic dominates over the past 52 weeks with a projected win percentage of 67% per tennisabstract. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as Bencic does possess some of the best power on the WTA but often struggles to harness it especially in the service game. In her most recent match she was swept in straight sets while committing 8 double faults. Now of course none of this sounds ideal but it speaks to her game as well as Kostyuk’s that she’s still a favorite in the betting markets overall.
Bencic has looked very mediocre thus far in 2022 with five up and five down but considering her pedigree she’s always a viable target especially at this price with what should be favorable ownership. Couple that along with her double-digit ace upside there are few better gpp plays on this tennis dfs slate.
Fade Pick: Ons Jabeur ($9,700)
Opponent: Magda Linette
Ons Jabeur is never an exciting roster for tennis dfs when she’s priced up with her grind it out style. On top of that she’s facing a veteran player, Magda Linette, who will match her same will to win and comes in off a nice first round win as a big dog which can’t hurt her confidence. These combatants have faced off three times in their career with Jabeur winning two but Linette did defeat her in their only hard court match way back in 2013. So far in 2022 neither has looked strong but more surprisingly the world no. 10 Jabeur has won just 6 of 10 matches including two straight L’s.
Jabeur should win this match as a big-time favorite per the elo (79%) and the odds (-435) but with little to no ace upside there are plenty of plays around her with better ace projections, surface history, and matchups.
Upside Tennis Pick Today: Tommy Paul ($9,000)
Opponent: Benjamin Bonzi
Tommy Paul has looked far more competitive in 2022 coming into this match with Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi. A 60% projected winner per the elo in this match the American has won 11 of his 17 matches this season (all hard court) including a win against Alexander Zverev (no.4 in the world) last week at Indian Wells. Paul has also defeated Bonzi already this year in Australia in straight sets back in January so form and history both lean towards Paul as well. If we go even deeper this season is actually the best so far of the 24-year-old’s career with a domination rating of 1.07 after just 1.02 last year.
Paul should win this match handily as he did in their first meeting and carries some solid ace upside (6.6 ace percentage) as well as sweep bonus points.
