WNBA DFS Picks August 23 (FREE): Is Elena Delle Donne the Building Block?

Today we have a three game WNBA slate that is fairly intriguing. My gut feeling  is there might be a lot of recency bias on this slate as well. Below are free WNBA DFS picks for the DraftKings and FanDuel slate, but make sure to sign up HERE to gain access to all of Awesemo’s premium projections and rankings. Today’s slate will lock on DraftKings and FanDuel at 7:30PM ET.

Connecticut Sun Guards

Rachel Barnham and Natasha Hiedman are both out. While somewhat minor players, this does leave the Sun down to only nine active players. It also means they are down to four guards. This secures the minutes for Shekinna Stricklen (who is almost a lock on FanDuel). Bria Holmes also becomes an intriguing GPP play, likely to see minutes in the twenties. Between Courtney Williams and Jasmine Thomas, the discount to Thomas is probably the stronger play.

Connecticut Sun Forwards

Jonquel Jones has been struggling recently and there are whispers she is nursing a foot injury. She is the only player that interests me here, as I feel Alyssa Thomas is overpriced. Jones is a strong GPP play.

Las Vegas Aces Guards

Kelsey Plum is under priced on FanDuel but her usage is very decreased. Nobody else really interests me with other strong guard plays on the slate.

Las Vegas Aces

Aja Wilson’s price has come up to where it is close to Elizabeth Cambage. Of the two, when they are close, I would prefer to just spend up for Cambage and the higher ceiling.

New York Liberty Guards

Two awful teams square off and it becomes DFS gold. Kia Nurse and Tanisha Wright have both been averaging over 30 minutes the last two games. Of the two I greatly prefer Kia Nurse. Both are underpriced on FanDuel for such a nice matchup.

New York Liberty Forwards

Tina Charles has been on the war path lately. Her usage is very high now and she gets a matchup with the Atlanta frontcourt as well. My guess is that she will be very highly owned and with good reason. Of chalk to fade I think she is my favorite fade on this slate. Amanda Zahuii came back last game and played 22 minutes. She is an intriguing GPP play on this slate especially if she starts. If she does not start that would decrease my interest greatly.

Atlanta Dream Guards

Tiffany Hayes is a very strong play in GPPs. New York will be up tempo and Hayes might end up shooting a lot. The fact is, out of Alex Bentley, Renee Montgomery and Brittany Sykes one will be a good play. I have no idea which so I will recommend all three (that is what we in the biz call a hedge).

Atlanta Dream Forwards

Elizabeth Williams should be back from her personal issues. Assuming she is I love her on FanDuel at her reduced price. On DraftKings I would prefer to get up to Jessica Breland. Monique BIllings, who should see minutes as well, is a strong GPP play.

Chicago Sky Guards

This is a bad matchup and normally I do not like guards against Washington. But I think if you want to stack the game Courtney VanDerSloot or Diamond DeShields make for strong plays. Of the two I have a slight lean to VanderSloot.

Chicago Sky Forwards

Stefanie Dolson has been awful lately but her price has come down. That being said the matchup is awful. While Astou Ndour has been awesome and her price has come up, I am not sure Ndour price is high enough for the minutes she receives as the FPP/minute she has been producing.  As always Cheyenne Parker in GPPs.

Washington Mystic Guards

Kristi Toliver is still out. I am sure it will comfort Tim Galipeau and Chicken Dinner in Awesemo slack that I love Natasha Cloud here. Yes she has been horrible but this is such a great spot and her price is reduced. Ariel Atkins as well is a strong GPP play.

Washington Mystic Forwards

Elena Delle Donne is the number one stud on the slate. She checks all the boxes: revenge, uptempo, and matchup. Normally I would just stop at EDD and move on. Latoya Sanders (too cheap on FD), Ariel Powers and Emma Messeeman also have strong matchups. Messeeman is probably my favorite of the bunch. Washington wants to work her in more with EDD in preparation for the playoffs.

Cash Core

Edd, Charles, Nurse, Wright, Sanders (FD), Stricklen, J Thomas, Ndour, Dolson, Williams (FD)

Plum (FD)

GPP

Monty, Bentley, Zahui, Messeeman, Cloud, Atkins, Vandersloot, Parker, Cambage, Bria Holmes, J JOnes
