DraftKings is the only site running a WNBA DFS All Star game showdown, thus saving us from ourselves. So, examining the box score from the last all star game, the one note I would make is that most of the minutes were even. The starters only got one or two minutes more than the bench, which is a departure from what generally happens in the NBA game. Also, and most importantly, the WNBA All Star game is a 3 point shooting contest.
A little less than half the shots taken in the game last year were three pointers. In fact, every player in the game took at least one. This alone makes guards better plays in this game than they are during regular WNBA games. Another thing to keep in mind is nobody got to ten rebounds last game. In fact the highest total was eight. Which means the double double bonus for forward plays is not likely, further diminishing them.
Home Town Narrative
Elizabeth Cambage is at home and with Aja Wilson out I would expect her to get extra run to please the hometown fans. Obviously the same would be true of Kayla McBride, who has the added bonus of being a three point shooter.
Who are the three point shooters?
The three point shooters that jump out the most to me for this game are Kristi Toliver, Chelsea Gray, Allie Quigley and Diamond DeShields. I especially like Diamond because she tends to be a ball hog and chucker so she should feel at home in this game.
Players I do not like
Candace Dupree cannot shoot threes; not sure how she made it. Courtney Vandersloot. Vandersloot just doesn’t look to score and shoot and you really need your players to put up points to win. This game does not really fit the skill set of Britteny Griner and Sylvia Fowles either.
WNBA DFS Studs
I have no idea how you separate DeWanna Bonner, Elena Delle Donne, Jonquel Jones, and Natasha Howard. I guess since EDD is the captain maybe that narrative gives her a little bonus. Just beware this is basically a lottery, so in the words of a famous DFS tout “play whoever you want”
