DraftKings and FanDuel NHL Showdown/Single Game Plays of the Day, Saturday 6/2

Jake Hari

NHL Betting picks tonight Capitals vs Bruins moneyline and spread

The Caps and the Golden Knights head back to Washington DC with the series tied 1-1. The Capitals are a team that like to hard-match with the Backstrom line, so we should have a good idea of how the matchups with shake out tonight. Here are some of the plays we’re rolling out for the single-game/showdown slate.

The scoring system on FanDuel will essentially be the same outside of no goalie, but you will want (what you think will be) your top scorer to be in your “Captain” spot where you’ll get all of his scoring times 1.5. On DraftKings, Goals (8) and Shots on Goal (2) are weighted more than they are in the traditional scoring, but the face-off bonus (0.2) is a little bit of a game-changer, making centers and guys who take face-offs a little bit more valuable. Winning goalies will (in general) also score very well, which is similar to traditional scoring.

WSH1: Ovechkin-Kuznetsov-Wilson ($29,500 DK/$30,700 FD)

This will likely be the highest-owned trio, but it’s hard to avoid them, as they will get to avoid VGK1 at even-strength being on home ice. They’ll go up against Perron-Haula-Neal, which has allowed 19 High-Danger Chances in under 60 minutes of even-strength time in the playoffs. Kuznetsov and Ovi will also be on the top power-play, giving them such a high floor that they’re incredibly hard to ignore with so few options.

Jonathan Marchessault ($11,800 DK/$10,900 FD)

Marchessault has 10 shot attempts in each of the first 2 games of this series as he’s firing everything at the net every opportunity he gets. The matchup against the Backstrom line isn’t great at even-strength, but he’ll get top power-play minutes and plays on the powerhouse Vegas top line. Outside of Ovechkin, he’s my favorite spend-up option on this slate by a wide margin.

John Carlson ($9,100 DK/$9,400 FD)

Carlson is a great correlation play if you’re stacking up the trio above, as he’ll play on the top power-play and also gets a lot of even-strength ice time with WSH1 when at home. He leads the team in shot attempts this series, and is second in shot attempts this postseason for team as well. If you don’t want to pay $6,900 for Tom Wilson and have $2,200 to spare, Carlson is a great add-on to any sort of Caps stack.

Shea Theodore ($6,500 DK/$8,300 FD)

Theodore should see his normal 20+ minutes tonight and also spends a lot of time on the top power-play. If you’ve been watching it’s been hard not to notice Theodore’s impact in the first couple games of this series, and I expect him to continue to shoot at a high volume (12 attempts in 2 games, 79 in 17 games these playoffs). He may be a bit overpriced compared to some other defensemen on the slate, but I’ll be looking to get heavy exposure to Theodore.
