Start ’em, Sit ’em: NFL Week 6 Fantasy Football Lineup Picks

There will be several prominent fantasy players unavailable this week with the Saints, Seahawks, Chargers and Raiders on a bye. As far as the teams who will still be in action, let’s discuss some start ‘em/sit ‘em decisions that many fantasy managers might be facing.

Start ’em, Sit ’em – NFL Week 6 Fantasy Football Lineup Picks

Quarterback: Start ‘Em

Ryan Fitzpatrick, MIA (vs. NYJ)

There is the revenge narrative for Fitzpatrick in this game, but you can use that for him more often than not considering he’s played for eight teams during his career. The real reason to deploy Fitzpatrick if you need help at quarterback is that this is an excellent matchup against a Jets team that has allowed 32.2 points per game. On top of that, they have allowed the eighth-most passing yards per game in the league.

Quarterback: Sit ‘Em

Teddy Bridgewater, CAR (vs. CHI)

Bridgewater was in the start ‘em section last week for his favorable matchup against the Falcons, and he cashed in with 313 passing yards and two touchdowns. That marked his second straight week with at least two touchdown passes and his second game of the season with at least 300 passing yards. As encouraging as that performance was, it will be tough to count on him this week against the Bears, who have allowed the fourth-fewest points per game and the fewest passing touchdowns (four) in the league.

Running Back: Start ‘Em

Chase Edmonds, ARI (at DAL)

Are we going to see a changing of the guard at running back for the Cardinals? Kenyan Drake has been a major disappointment, turning 85 carries into 314 yards. His contributions in the passing game have also been virtually non-existent with him receiving six targets all season. Meanwhile, Edmonds has posted back-to-back games with at least five receptions, and he had 92 total yards and a touchdown last week versus the Jets. This could be a shootout against a bad Cowboys’ defense, which might afford Edmonds added opportunities to catch passes out of the backfield. If you play in a PPR league, Edmonds could be a viable bye week fill-in based on this matchup.

Running Back: Sit ‘Em

Mark Ingram, BAL (at PHI)

Even with Alvin Kamara, Josh Jacobs and Chris Carson on a bye, this is still not a week to roll with Ingram in your starting lineup. The Ravens have deployed a rotation of three running backs this season, rotating Ingram in with J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. The end result has been limited fantasy value for all three players. Ingram is the official starter at the position, but he hasn’t received more than 11 carries in a game this season, leaving him with only 205 rushing yards through five games.

Wide Receiver: Start ‘Em

Preston Williams, MIA (vs. NYJ)

The first four weeks of the season were not kind to Williams in his return from a torn ACL. He registered a total of six catches and entered Week 5 having recorded 26 yards or fewer in three straight games. However, he broke out against the 49ers, catching four or five targets for 106 yards and a touchdown. Could this be the beginning of his turnaround? It certainly helps his cause that he will face the Jets, so don’t be surprised if he comes away with another productive stat line.

Wide Receiver: Sit ‘Em

Jarvis Landry, CLE (at PIT)

The appeal with Landry is that he usually catches a lot of passes, which helps offset his lack of touchdowns in PPR formats. He still hasn’t found his way into the end zone this season, but the real concern is that he hasn’t caught more than five passes in a game. On top of that, he’s produced 48 receiving yards or fewer in three of five contests. The Browns have become a run-heavy offense and will face a Steelers team that has allowed the sixth-fewest points per game, so it might be best to steer clear of starting Landry.

Tight End: Start ‘Em

T.J. Hockenson, DET (at JAC)

This isn’t exactly an exciting matchup between two teams with a combined 2-7 record. However, from a fantasy perspective, this game could be gold with both teams allowing at least 29.4 points per game. The Jaguars have been lit up through the air, allowing the fourth-most passing yards per game and the fifth-most total touchdown passes. Enter Hockenson, who leads the Lions with 15 receptions this season.

Tight End: Sit ‘Em

Tyler Higbee, LAR (at SF)

Higbee was a fantasy monster down the stretch last season, helping him finish the year with 69 catches for 734 yards and three touchdowns. However, he hasn’t been able to follow that up this year, mainly because he’s only received 17 targets through five games. That’s resulted in him recording 40 yards or fewer four times. Until he becomes more involved in the offense, it’s difficult to justify inserting him into your starting lineup.
