DraftKings and FanDuel Spotlight Pitchers, Thursday 8/30

Adam and EMac break down some of their favorite MLB picks for tonight's MLB DFS slate on DraftKings and FanDuel, including Justin Verlander

Justin Verlander ($12,000 DK/$11,200 FD)

Tonight we get  about a $1K discount Verlander on DraftKings despite him being at home against an Angels team with a total just over 3 runs. Coming off a “bad” start (6 innings, 6Ks, 3ER) for his standards on the road against this same Angels team, he will look to rebound at home against them, as they’re striking out 24% of the time against righties over the last month and really has 2 bats that are worrisome for a pitcher as talented as Verlander. If you can afford him tonight without sacrificing too many bats, it would be wise to get exposure to him in all formats, as he has the best chance to lead all pitchers in raw points tonight.

German Marquez ($8,500 DK/$9,000 FD)

Marquez has been downright filthy against right-handed bats this year, and looking at the projected Padres lineup, he should get up to 6 of them, (including the pitcher) tonight in Petco. It hasn’t really mattered where he’s pitched lately, as he’s gone at least 7 innings or posted 7+ strikeouts in each of his last 6 outings, but toeing the rubber in one of the best parks tonight certainly won’t hurt him. Throw in a Padres team that we know has had issues with righties all season (25.9% K-rate, .128 ISO, 81 wRC+) and the fact that he’s only $8,500 on DraftKings, and he becomes my favorite point-per-dollar pitcher on the slate by a wide margin.

Joe Musgrove ($7,000 DK/$8,300 FD)

When I can’t get up to German Marquez, Musgrove will make for a nice consolation prize on DraftKings on a slate with very limited punt options. Musgrove doesn’t necessarily have slate-breaking upside, but a righty-heavy Cardinals lineup gives him a chance to post a quality start for a fair price on DraftKings. He’s striking out 22.2% of righties on the year and has been getting increased chases (39%) and first-pitch strikes (78.4%) over his last four starts, and while the Cardinals don’t strikeout a lot in total, they do have 4 players that strikeout over 25% of the time against righties on the season. It’s tough to find great value tonight, but Musgrove is one of the only guys in this range that I believe has 20+ point upside.
